CHICAGO (CBS 2) He's done it again. The outspoken Republican running for U.S. Senate is making news with his remarks. This time he's calling Mayor Daley a "troll."
Since moving here last month, Alan Keyes has said little about Illinois issues. But his provocative name-calling got attention, including claims that opponent Barack Obama has a slave-holder mentality and has the same disregard for human life as a terrorist. Today's target: the mayor and his political machinery.
We have a future but we're not going be allowed to get to that future because a troll is sitting under the bridge saying I eat first, Keyes said.
A few minutes after that Keyes critique, Rich Daley was at South Loop Elementary in the school library, where, ironically enough, there was a copy of Three Billy Goats Gruff, a fairy tale featuring the very troll under the bridge that Keyes used to mock the mayor.
While Democrat Daley tried to dismiss Keyes, the Catholic mayor was unable to ignore the Republican U.S. Senate nominee's claim Tuesday that Catholics would be "sinning" if they voted for Obama, because of his pro-choice position on abortion. This latest remark follows last week's declaration that Jesus Christ would not vote for Obama.
Last time he was talking, you know, that he had a pipeline to the person upstairs, our Lord. Now, he's talking about having a pipeline to the confessional. It's not worth even talking about, Daley said.
Imprisoned within the machinery of the politics in Illinois are people who have been giving knee-jerk their vote to leaders who do not reflect their conscience, faith and values, Keyes said. And it is my job to help free those prisoners.

The truth hurts. That is why Daley can't answer.

Can't they put Keyes back in the box they keep him in?
He's a nut. He might be correct on his points, but he is politically tonedeaf.

No such thing as bad press. He's getting face time. He's getting heard. He's saying things that RINOs are afraid to say.
Go Alan GO!

Keyes says game plan is controversy
By Rick Pearson
Tribune political reporter
Published September 14, 2004
Declaring that his campaign strategy is dependent on controversy, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Alan Keyes told the state's top GOP donors at a recent closed-door meeting that he plans to make "inflammatory" comments "every day, every week" until the election, according to several sources at the session.
The sources said Keyes explained that his campaign has been unfolding according to plan and likened it to a war in which lighting the "match" of controversy was needed to ignite grass-roots voters.
"This is a war we're in," one source recounted Keyes as saying. "The way you win wars is that you start fires that will consume the enemy."

Keyes is doing a great job of shaking up the infidels of Illinois. And maybe just maybe he's getting a few of them to stop and think.
Can anyone tell me when and where the debates will take place?

Keyes is going to be lucky to finish ahead of the Losertarian or Constipation Party candidates...

I've supported Keyes in the past; he's been to our church in Woodstock, GA several times; but the man needs to decide whether he wants to be a preacher or a politician.
I think he's better as a preacher and it would be best if he took about a three year sabatical after this debacle and then came back.

Oh, Keyes is shaking things up in Illinois, alright. And when its all over, he's going to settle at the bottom of the race. He just might destroy Bush's chances in Illinois, too. I'd hate to see Kerry take D.C. and Illinois. Those 24 electoral votes will keep Bush from setting a new record.
