As part of an effort to inspire people to vote for change this November, the coalition of artists who are participating in this Fall’s 36 city, 12 state Vote For Change tour will come together for a grand finale performance in Washington, DC on October 11 at the MCI Center. This, as with all Vote For Change shows, is presented by MoveOn PAC to benefit America Coming Together (ACT).

(I edited out the stuff on where to buy tickets and the phone number to call, in keeping with FR rules against selling stuff from the site...click on the link to the REM web site if you have to know)

The finale show will bring 13 of the Vote For Change artists together for a 4 hour performance. Although these artists vary in genre, their message is the same; they want to inspire people to vote for change. Performers will include Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Dave Matthews Band, the Dixie Chicks, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, John Fogerty, John Mellencamp, Jurassic 5, Keb’ Mo’, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Pearl Jam, and R.E.M.

“We all wanted to come back together for a finale show after we had finished our separate tour dates,” said Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam. “We thought our nation’s capitol seemed like the most ideal place to do that.”

"The power of music is coming to Washington to liven the political debate about the need to change the direction of our country. This will be the grand finale to inspire and reinvigorate the democratic political world before we head into the final weeks of the campaign,” said Ellen Malcolm, President of ACT.

”This finale concert will clearly be a historic event, and we’re honored and grateful to be presenting it with so many world-renowned artists,” said Eli Pariser, Executive Director of MoveOn PAC. “After four years of deficits, layoffs, and war, this call for new leadership will signal to millions of Americans that on November 2nd, they need to get out and vote for change.”

I though this was a "swing states" tour. Have things gotten so bad for Kerry that DC is in the "swing" column?

He's a man's man for sure. Just like the rest of those hollow-chested weaklings on this tour. I'm sure Mellencamp is real big in Anacostia these days.

It's funny how they avoid saying "vote for Kerry". They have to say "vote for change".

Why do all the has-beens feel they have to get into politics just to get famous again?

It was extremley funny back in 2000 when Barbra Striesand said she would move out of the country if Bush became president. I think that actually inspired people to vote for Bush. I still havent seen her plane ticket???

Vote for Change? How about changing Daschle's occupancy to the "R" column? Same with Edwards. Same with Graham.

How about sending Keyes to Washington DC in an elected capacity (although he will drive the Republicans as nuts as he does Democrats)?

How about Bush winning with a madate this time?

There are lots of possible changes.

Surely there are a bunch of Sandinista stragglers left over from one of Ortega's junkets.

This big blowout show was originally rumored to happen in Miami. I guess they gave up on that idea.

He'll certainly get the wife beater vote out for Kerry.

isnt it ironic that the dixie cowards sing a song about murdering wife beaters only to share the stage one?
