So I logged back on and went a chat room where a guide was and started cussing him, when they kicked me off AOL they stopped billing me.

Good, old-fashioned American ingenuity at work for you.

Hey, I'm in Kuwait. I pay 120 a month for DSL and it is heavily censored. I'd love to get any kind of connection for 24 a month.

I'm just a little to the north of ya. Things are censored here, too. ;-)

But even at $24/mo. AOL still sucks. (It doesn't work here, so I'm not missing it..)

I'll be heading your way in a couple of months for a year stint. Hope I can get connected. Can't live without this.

I once had a dispute with them about a really annoying policy that made it very awkward to spin off my daughter's account when she started her own household. My son in law was billed repeatedly for my account. When I asked who I could complain to they could barely conceal their mirth as they gave me Steve Case's email address.

AOL is distant history for me. Good riddance.

You don't have to subscribe to AOL or use their ISP in order to download and use AIM (AOL Instant Messenger). Even if you did, there are other Instant Messengers out there that work just as well if not better: Yahoo Messenger, Windows Messenger, ICQ, and various other less known alternatives.

You make a good point. Maybe the best way in is through investor relations.

No. Even if you call and cancel it's likely they'll keep billing you for months and months and months.

Correct. They are now sending me to collections to get the fraudulent CC charges they placed after 13 months of registered letters cancelling my subscription and threatening them with legal action if they did not cease and desist.

This just has to be illegal.

I wrote to them that I was quitting their service due to their left-wing bias and they gave me a free month. But I'm still searching for another internet provider.

The ONLY reason I keep them is so my son can use their Kids AOL and their parental control features.

If security and control are your concern, other ISPs have it, and better than AOL. If features are your concern, let your son pick a new ISP. Ten bucks says he has one lined up.

AOL is crack for the willfully computer-illiterate.

If you think your son doesn't know how to visit sites that aren't bookmarked in a specific folder, you are in for a rude awakening.

Yahoo has an Instant Messenger program that works quite nicely. Free download, and no AOL involved.

I have yet to get my mother to leave AOL. I've even told her that she has met the standards that prove she can operate outside the confines of AOL . . . she's breathing and upright and can left- and right-click a mouse.

Run as fast and as far away from AOL as you can. They filter your email as well. Come on into the real internet, the water's fine.

Cancel AOL - you'll be surprised how difficult it will be, just say no and give the reason. Stand firm and be determined! Once you sign up with them they are hard to get rid, but you'll be glad you did. There are much better ISPs that cost much less, some like Everyone's Internet only cost $10 a month. The money you save will allow you to buy software and much more! I'd really recommend a DSL and you IE as your browser.
