Hodges says he didn't validate memos for CBS...

"In another challenge to CBS, Killian's boss, retired Maj. Gen. Bobby W. Hodges, told ABC News that he regards the documents as a computer "fraud," never saw them in the 1970s and didn't validate them for CBS. A senior CBS official had claimed to the Washington Post that Hodges had validated the documents. During his national news broadcast, Rather claimed "partisan political operatives" are challenging the memos but omitted the fact that Killian's widow and son dispute them...”

The NewYorkPost has a news story that reveals CBS anchor Dan Rather may have caught in their own fraudulent claims. At issue: the Bush memos and CBS’s claim that retired Major Gen. Bobby W. Hodges had validated the memos. The problem: Major Ge. Hodges denies he validated them.

On his CBS News show Friday, Rather there's no "definitive evidence" to refute the authenticity of documents about President Bush's National Guard service — and closed with this:

"If any definitive evidence to the contrary of our story is found, we will report it. So far there is none."

Meanwhile, the ‘unimpeachable’ CBS evidence continues to be questioned. CBS/Rather made much about their analysis expert, Marcel Matley. But according to the Post article:

But Matley is primarily a handwriting expert whose expertise in document evaluation has been challenged by the head of the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners.

Matley spoke only about a signature and initials purported to be those of the late Lt. Col. Jerry Killian — "they are his signatures" — though two of the four memos are unsigned.

Another glaring problem: the documents obtained by CBS are not originals. They are only photocopies, and this sends up a big red flag with document experts. Excerpt from Post article:

Allan Haley — a typeface expert at Agfa Monotype — said anyone who claims to definitively authenticate a photocopy "is either guessing or is a fool."

But perhaps the more insulting claim during Rather’s Friday rebuttal was this: Rather said ‘partisan political operatives’ were challenging the memos. Did he mean to include Killian’s widow and son as ‘political operatives’??? Both are hotly contesting the validity of the documents. Killian’s widow says her deceased husband did not type. And Killian’s son says they are not authentic.

Am starting to wonder if they can be held libel for this.

Please CBS don't stop digging. We need a hole big enough for the DNC to fall into!

Rather has revealed fact that it is he himself who is the political.

Everyday people and numerous true experts are concentrating on those documents...because they are forgeries, fake, and a slap in the face of a free and thinking people. Those forgeries lay the foundation for the more relevent parts of the story that Rather refers to in his CYA presntation and establish the whole thing as nothing but a sham and cheap political hack job.

If Rather thinks so little of the people of this country whom he tries to speak to...and it is clear that he believes we are idiots...then he had best be prepared for a continued fight until the truth of this obviious sham is made known from the rooftops and until his credentials and career are laid low in the mud from whence they have sprung.

CBS is in a world of hurt.....they reported that Hodges validated demonstrable forgerys. This ain't over by a long shot.

This is not a questioning of signature forgery... this is a questioning of document forgery!

CBS and The Boston Globe are dragging out the wrong people and giving them supreme authority on things they are not 'expert' in!

This thing is stinkin' up the house so bad it's giving off visable fumes!

What is really telling, is that Rather could not have spewed his lies, without the blessing of the idiots who sign his paychecks. The whole organization is corrupt.(of course we already knew this)

CBS lied to the American public, mislead those who turn to them for nightly news, in a manner so devastatingly full of bias and so creepily imbalanced (they ignored killin's FAMILYL and everyone who knew and respected GW's guard service) it is not only shocking, it goes against the code of ethics all journalists and reporters need to hold to IF the American Press Corp is to be meaningful and not a TOOL of a political party.

They've been UTTERLY exposed this election cycle as tools for the left. That genie won't ever go back in the bottle, IMHO.

I don't have the words necessary to express my total comtempt and disrespect for Dan Rather, 60 Minutes, and CBS news production.

It is horrific to consider their MO.

And equally horrific to consider the manner in which they are CYA'ing their actions. They really do think we are stupid and will eventually go away.

Not this time. And nevermore. If they will not protect the importance of honesty, genuine investigative work, a balanced story and professional journalism methods, THEN WE WILL!

I think the forgery was prepared/peddled at the direction of John Sasso with the Kerry campaign -- typical of his dirty tricks.

It's very similar to the Biden plagarism thing.

The most important thing you can do is to contact CBS and voice your disgust about Dan Rather. Second, about CBS's anti-Bush taint, and third, send media links to the controversy to the advertisers and lodge a complaint with the advertisers that they must repudiate the 60 Minutes hit piece. Do they want their products associated with a politically motivated hatchet job which turns out to be a fraud?
CBS 60 Minutes Hit Piece on Bush
This should be enough to put a LOT of heat on CBS if you're willing to do the work. Complain to CBS advertisers. Most of these are advertisers that were involved with the 60 Minutes slam on Bush, but hey, complain to them and ask for them to pull their advertising from the Bush Hating CBS...

Is there any evidence that Rather has to dig his heels in because his partisan daughter, who lives in Texas, is the source?
