The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic invites all FReepers and lurkers in good standing--especially those coming to town for the rally on Sunday--to join us this Saturday, September 11, outside the Russian embassy as we remember the terror attacks on America and show our support for the Russian people over the recent terror attacks against them.
When: Saturday, September 11, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: the sidewalk in front of the Russian embassy, 2650 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C.
Bring: Flags, flowers and signs bearing messages of support and sympathy for the victims of terror attacks here and around the world, as well as signs expressing support for our troops fighting the war on terror in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. (No anti-Kerry signs, please.)
This is a permitted demonstration.
As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for demonstrating will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no racism, no profanity, no provocations. Obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.
Bump! Will try to make it!
I wish I could join you. Some of the mourners at Beslan have been leaving bottled water and bread as tributes to the children that died, symbolizing the things the terrorists denied them. Also toys. I'm not sure if this sort of thing is appropriate for FR but it would be meaningful to the Russians.
Good Lord willing and the creeks dont rise I will be there.
Great idea. I'll be with you in spirit.
I wish so much that I could be there. Give my love to the Russians.
Please freepmail me your snailmail address and I will have money to cover this on the way to you asap.
Anyone else want to help the DC chapter with water in memory of a group of hostages who went without?
Kristinn, You know we will all be with you in spirit,
please convey to the embassy our sincere condolences and
prayers, and thank them for acknowledging our emails.
We have a common enemy now who has declared war on us both.
I am making my contribition through the Orthodox Church in America (a daughter of the Russian Orthodox Church), and encouraging my fellow Lutherans (locally and nationally) to do the same.
kristinn, I shall be there, in front of the Russian Embassy, with you in spirit, and will pray for you all. What an appropriate thing to do on September 11th. Thanks once again to DC Freepers.
See you there Kristinn. Lovely sentiment about the bread and water.
Never Forget.
Back to the top -- NEVER FORGET!
A see you there, Lord willing, bump.
Thanks. I have to work but my husband and 4 kids will go to the Russian embassy in Seattle and hand out bottled water.
It's just something we need to do.
BTT and thanks for the idea, btw.
"Pavel XXXXX said that the local situation in Beslan is quite tense. North Ossetia appears to be on the brink of an uprising against the neighboring region of Ingushetia where some of the terrorists are believed to be from. A previous ethnic conflict between Ingushetia and North Ossetia took place in 1992 and much blood was shed then.
The terrorists who attacked the school in Beslan were a mixture of Chechens, Ingushetians, and Arabs. According to XXXX and official sources in Beslan, workers from Ingushetia took part in depositing arms and explosives under the floor of the gymnasium and other places while the school was being remodeled last summer. These Ingushetian terrorists worked with Chechen insurgents in plotting this attack on the school in Beslan well in advance.
When the siege ended, 50 kilograms (almost 100 lbs.) of unused explosives were found in the school. If these explosives had detonated, the entire neighborhood could have been blown up."
