[Killian] WIDOW TO APPEAR ON 'NIGHTLINE'... Live Thread

XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX THU SEPT 09, 2004 22:45:32 ET XXXXX

Marjorie Connell — widow of the late Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, the reported author of memos suggesting that Bush did not meet the standards for the Texas Air National Guard — questions whether the documents are real on tonight's NIGHTLINE, sources tell DRUDGE.

Transcript:

I WAS ANGRY, BECAUSE HERE THEY ARE GOING BACK AND PULLING RECORDS OF A MAN WHO IS DECEASED TWENTY YEARS, WHO IS NOT HERE TO EXPLAIN WHAT ANY OF THESE DOCUMENTS SAID OR SUPPOSED TO HAVE SAID, AND I JUST FOUND IT APPALLING. I WAS SICK THAT HERE WITHOUT WARNING HIS PICTURES ARE UP THERE, HIS NAME IS BEING BATTLED BACK AND FORTH AND I, LIVID I GUESS IS A BETTER WORD FOR IT."

"I THINK THERE WAS SO MUCH UNTRUTHS BEING SAID THAT THAT FRUSTRATED ME AND THAT I KNEW THAT IF JERRY WERE ALIVE TODAY THAT HE WOULD JUST, NUMBER ONE HE WOULD BE TURNING OVER IN HIS GRAVE TO KNOW THAT A DOCUMENT SUCH AS THIS WOULD BE USED AGAINST A FELLOW GUARDSMAN."

"THAT IS WHAT AGGRAVATED ME SO MUCH, WAS THAT HE CAN NOT BE HERE TO SAY AND YET THEY CAN DRAG HIS NAME ONTO TELEVISION, MAKING BAD ACCUSATIONS ABOUT OUR PRESIDENT AND A MAN THAT HE RESPECTED AND I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT HE THOUGHT THIS YOUNG MAN AS A SECOND LIEUTENANT OR FIRST LIEUTENANT WAS AN EXCELLENT AVIATOR, AN EXCELLENT PERSON TO BE IN THE GUARD AND WAS VERY HAPPY TO HAVE HIM BECOME A MEMBER OF THE 111TH F-I-S."

"NUMBER ONE, HE WOULD NOT HAVE TYPED BECAUSE HE DID NOT TYPE. NUMBER TWO, THE WORDING IN THESE DOCUMENTS IS VERY SUSPECT TO ME. I JUST DON'T BELIEVE THAT, IT LOOKS LIKE SOME THINGS MAY HAVE BEEN PICKED UP OUT OF A DOCUMENT AND THEN OTHER THINGS JUST MADE FICTITIOUSLY TO FILL IN THINGS, TO MAKE THEM FLOW. I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THIS IS HIS WORDS, MY LATE HUSBAND'S WORDS."

"NOT A TYPIST, DEFINITELY NOT A TYPIST. WE HAD NO COMPUTERS AT HOME BUT HE WASN'T A TYPIST, AND WHAT IS REMARKABLE TO ME IS THAT HE WAS A PERSON WHO DID NOT TAKE OR MAKE COPIOUS NOTES. HE CARRIED EVERYTHING IN HIS MIND AND HE DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO MAKE NOTES."

"I AM STILL PRESENTLY LOOKING FOR OTHER DOCUMENTS. I HAVE FOUND SOME THAT SAY THE 147TH ON THEM AND THEY GO BACK TO 1970. I CAN NOT FIND ANY AT THIS MOMENT THAT HAVE ANY 1972 INDICATIONS ON THEM OTHER THAN A, AND I TOLD HER THAT, A FLIGHT SCHEDULE THAT HE HAD JUST SIGNED HIS NAME TO."

"UNFORTUNATELY WHEN WE MOVED I PUT THINGS IN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS AND I JUST DON'T KNOW WHERE EVERYTHING IS AT THIS MOMENT AND I WAS SEARCHING FOR THEM AND I STILL HAVE NOT FOUND ANY OTHER DOCUMENTS. I DO HAVE ALL OF HIS FLIGHT RECORDS THOUGH AND THEY ARE IN MY HANDS."

"HE DISCUSSED WITH ME HOW PROUD HE WAS TO BE ABLE TO GO AND PIN THE WINGS ON YOUNG GEORGE AND TO MEET THEN MR. BUSH, I'VE FORGOTTEN IF HE WAS WITH THE CIA OR WHAT OFFICE HE HELD AT THAT TIME AND BARBARA BUSH."

"HE LEFT THE 147TH, FLEW TO WHEREVER GEORGE GOT HIS WINGS AND JERRY PINNED THEM ON HIM AND HE WAS, CAME HOME JUST, HE TOLD ME ABOUT THAT AND HOW PROUD HE WAS TO HAVE MET THE FAMILY."

"HE WOULD JUST WRITE LITTLE NOTES ON THE BACK OF ANYTHING. UNFORTUNATELY OR FORTUNATELY AS THE CASE MAY BE, IF HE NEEDED TO JOT SOMETHING DOWN HE WOULD JOT IT ON ANY PAPER THAT HE COULD FIND, ON A CARD, LIKE A CALLING CARD THAT YOU WOULD HAVE, OR JUST LITTLE BITS OF PAPER. HE ALWAYS KNEW WHERE EVERYTHING WAS, AND IF HE NEEDED TO PULL IT OUT OF HIS WALLET ON A LITTLE NOTE OR SOMETHING, BUT HE JUST DIDN'T TAKE MANY NOTES."

The left is in deep trouble and so is the MSM who have been carrying their water for 4 decades now. The facade they have been hiding behind is coming down like the Berlin Wall

Howlin'--

The Washington Post reports that CBS called Gen. Hodges, and read him the memos. Gen. Hodges said that the memos reflect what Col. Killian was saying about Bush in '72-'73. Take it for what it's worth:

Sounds fabfreakingtastic to me...

There's a lot of work to do in a 2nd term. Educating the pipples by putting a link to FR in every email is a start!

Best regards,

The word is getting around that the documents came through the Kerry campaign

I don't have the link but what I read was that the Kerry campaign had the documents for awhile and didn't know what to do with them. His campaign staff had doubts if they the real deal or not.

So it was decided by his staff that they would give the docs to CBS and expected them to do the leg work for them. And surprise, surprise CBS couldn't help themselves and ran the 60 Minutes piece without doing there own investigation. And now Danny Boy Blather has egg on his face.

I read that too but I'm not sure I believe the Kerry camp's comments. Those documents didn't look authentic, even for those of us without military experience. I believe Rather trusted the source over his own eyes and internal questions. I think the Dems would do anything to get this Alabama National Guard time into the debate, however it gets there. Judging from Nightline they could get their wish, the media will blow past the forgeries and look to bolster their allegations.

I know how difficult it is to sue for libel, but I think she CAN prove malice by cbs.

You only have to prove malice if the victim is a public figure. Col. Killian isn't.

Please see my post # 323. The Washington Post (I know, I know) reports that CBS called Col. Killian's superior, Gen. Hodges. CBS read the memos to Gen. Hodges, and, it is claimed, that Gen. Hodges said that the memos reflected Col. Killian's statements about Lt. Bush. CBS states that it spoke with associates of Col. Killian. The Post tried to contact Gen. Hodges, who would not return calls.

I don't know where these documents came from, but I'd feel better if Gen. Hodges and any other living associates of Col. Killian would come out and deny that those memos reflect Col. Killian's statements and state that CBS didn't contact them.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could convince me that I shouldn't worry about the Post and CBS statements.

This is high-stakes poker. Whew!
And ABC, in a last ditch effort, tries to undermine the country once again with talk about the popular vote in 2000. Call your congressman, Ted, if you want to change the Constitution.

No sheet!

Aaron Brown of CNN began a bit tonight by clearly stating that the documents are probably fakes, but then went ahead and ran the SeeBS version of *the story* as if the fakes weren't fakes. Absolutely stunning that both Brown and CNN were willing accomplices in repeating falsehoods which they admitted were based on probable fakes.

If the Republicans were as litigious as Democrats, they'd rush to a courthouse to pursue a defamation claim against Brown and CNN. Putting out a story based on admitted *probable fakes* more clearly evidences the high actual malice standard applicable to public figures such as GWB than any other media slur known to date.

Explains why Scarborough and Buchanan had a real good chuckle over the entire matter on Scarborough Country tonight. They couldn't contain themselves. I posted last week or so that I'd be looking for the sign of resignation among cable talking heads to finally be at ease that GWB would win re-election. I was looking for the wrong sign. Tonight's chuckle-fest was such an unrehearsed, real release of expression as to win my confidence.

The amazing thing is that Koppel is not even PRETENDING that the documents are real.

He's asking questions (to his democratic co-hort) about how easy is it to get false documents to the media, who benefits, who did it, what should the Kerry campaign do now ...

How may one have "unintentional" forgeries? Doesn't the very word forgery indicate premeditated action? I hate the mass media.
