No, he won't win, because there are too many real directors who have skills and work hard. They won't throw another's just desserts away for that man. Even they would not do that for such a talentless windbag.

Good point CA...but here's a question for you...

What film out this year would you consider an Oscar level work? I really can't recall ANY good films this year, not even one...(Of course the year is FAR from over...)

The "big" Oscar films are generally released at the end of the year (sometimes only with a qualifying LA run). Too long and the Oscar voters forget they liked another movie mroe than somehting they just saw.

The Passion of the Christ came out this year. I will see it now that it is on video (I missed it in theaters). There were quite a few screenings starting in 2003. I don't know if Mel's film is still eligible for a 2005 Oscar (for movies released in 2004) nor do I know if Mel Gibson even cares. His film reached its audience and set box office records.
