Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Charles Schumer, initially expected to headline the Democratic response to the Republican convention, are both missing in action this week -- leaving the job to lesser-known lawmakers.

The low-key Democratic response at the GOP convention is a sharp contrast from the Republican counterattack in Boston, where party luminaries included Rudy Giuliani.

On Sunday, Clinton made the rounds of the political talk shows, while Schumer greeted fellow Democrats. But they have made no such appearances since, and press conferences for each were cancelled.

Matt Bennett, a Democratic National Committee spokesman, denied the party was missing an opportunity to respond to the Republican convention each day, insisting that putting forward a high-profile lawmaker carries its own risk.

"We want to make clear this is the Democratic response. It's not the Hillary show," explained Bennett.

Philippe Reines, a spokesman for Clinton, said she has not been asked to do any other work on behalf of the campaign. Aides to Schumer declined to discuss his appearances on behalf of the party.

They're both missing in action even when they're both there.

Does it really matter which socialist hack turd the dumbs parade out there to try and refute the plain and simple truth?

Regardless of who it is, they'll spew pure rhetoric and lies.

I've been meaning to ask freepers what happened to the Hillary Clinton truth squad she was going to head up for the RNC convention.

Guess she couldn't find any lies and just gave up.

Hillary is evil, not stoopid. She's laid out her black dress and is awaiting the post-convention poll results.

So, did they focus-group test Hillary telling "truths",
and not like the results?

It's known that Kerry didn't want her on the team. Did
he get his way? (seems unlikely)

What's the real story here?

There are a number of ways to view this. The most obvious is that they don't want to draw attention to the RNC convention, which their presence undoubtedly would do. What it means is that JF'nK is running weak, and they want to minimize the R's opportunities to create their post-convention bounce.

Slickette is evil, but not stupid.
She wants Jean le Kerré to lose in Noivember, so she can run in 2008.
Schumer is up for re-election and although he holds a wide lead at the moment, he doesn't want to be associated with le Kerré. It could hurt him with the Vets vote, and the Jewish vote.

Hey, where is Hillary!?! Last week the MSM made a big deal about how she would be in NYC to respond to the Republicans. I wonder if Kerry's downturn made her change her mind. The last thing she needs is to be associated with a sinking ship.

On the other hand,

"We want to make clear this is the Democratic response. It's not the Hillary show," explained Bennett.

Very interesting! Looks like the civil war in the DNC is starting to reach the surface. When Kerry loses, the fireworks will really start.

Shrillary and Schumer are in Chinatwon reading their tea leaves.

Interesting - they had a quick clip of her on O'Reilly and The Hillary was asked point blank about her 'truth squad' and oddly, she sidestepped calling it that.

The Hillary's patented wide-eyed-deer-in-headlight stare was in place and as she scurried away from the reporter The Hillary was asked if she'd appear on O'Reilly. Back to the camera heading down a tunnel she says something like "We'll see."

The Hillary's got her real squad in place - in the Kerry Kampaign - ready for her signal that she's running.
