It's one helluva storm.
I left downtown Richmond at 5:00 and it took me three hours to get home. Was diverted about 5 times. It's nasty.
Canal Walk is underwater. For the Richmonders, three feet of water in Bottom's Up pizza. River rose 10 ft. in 20 minutes...
Mandatory evacuation in Chesterfield County below Falling Creek dam...
Lovely.
Glad you finally got home.
Richmond got 8" of rain today. Twice what Isabel dumped on us last fall.
Powhatan "only" got 6".
I think I heard the Big One is due to hit us on Monday.
I swear, it's time to start building that ark out back. At this point, I don't even think the neighbors would think it weird. They'd probably help.
Just heard the Swift Creek evacuation is underway and water is spilling over the dam. Hope you are far away from there Corin.
I'm glad everyone's safe so far. We live in the West End, but got stuck in Hanover at 301 and Shady Grove Rd. 301 was flooded in both directions. Shady Grove was closed. New Ashcake closed at Sliding Hill Rd. After moving all the cars pushed out of they way, they finally opened up Northbound 301 and alternated traffic so we could make it back to I-295 after two and a half hours.
I consider myself lucky after what I was hearing on WRVA...
One daughter on Monument...got caught earlier near that area and managed to get home. Other daughter was in orientation for a job and couldn't get back to VCU, almost swept away in water (in her car), made it hours later in a round about way to a friend's house. This friend is really a friend of her roommate's mom, and works for State Police. She found her a way to get there. Roads are horrible...cell phones aren't even working most of the time.
