Bush Says Bible Is His Best Book

Sat Aug 28, 2004 04:54 PM ET

LIMA, Ohio (Reuters) - President Bush said on Saturday his favorite reading was the Bible, followed by books about history.

On a campaign stop in Lima, Ohio, Bush took questions from his audience, including from a young boy who asked him what his favorite book was. To loud applause, the president replied: "The Bible."

He said he was also a fan of history and had just read a biography of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers and the first treasury secretary.

"History is a way to understand the past so you can better see the future," Bush told the boy.

You can just imagine the expression on the face of some leftist who pulls up to Starbucks in their BMW, and sits down to sip over a $4 cup of coffee, opens up the paper, and reads this...

the eye rolling,a nd head shaking... THE BIBLE?! NO!

LOL

ROTFLOL!

I immediately thought of the 2000 debate
wherein GWB answered "Jesus Christ" to a question
and recall the flak he took from that one?

part of why EU is so negative on Americans- they believe that the Bible is no longer necessary- there are no wars so no need to pray. We take action AND pray the Bible-so there are no wars.

LOL, Kerry's favorite book will probably be something he hasn't bothered to read yet, but what he expects would make him look cool to whatever group he is trying to appeal to.

One of his most famous attributes was his dogged insistence on the National Bank. He also died in a duel with Aaron Burr I think.

Is it okay for Bush to say this? I mean, I keep reading comments from Freepers who claim to be culturally attuned, that this kind of stuff drives young people away (not sure how these people know this, other than the fact that they seem trapped in permanent adolescence). I mean, the first priority of any Republican should be to avoid offending anyone and instead try to act on the emotional level of a 16 year old (the types mentioned above have already accomplished this). After all, we are not a church, don't cha know. (end sarcasm)
