Swiftboat Veterans for Truth chief spokesman John O'Neill is supposed to be a tool of the Bush Cheney reelection campaign - at least according to John Kerry's media damage controllers.
But in fact, O'Neill voted against George Bush in 2000 and against his father in 1992, O'Neill friend Gerry Birnberg tells the Boston Globe, backing Al Gore and Ross Perot respectively.

I love it.
Bring It On!
No they won't, but they'll know how to handle it: They'll ignore it.
Could well be that O'Neill does have a credibility problem and why he needs a little rough treatment that "conservatives" routinely are given.
He also told Nixon that he and his family had back Humphrey.....SO why doesn't Bush just tell Kerry...."You tell them to stop, John, O'Neill is not a member of my party! He's a member of yours!"
"George Bush is an empty suit" Bush may come out and tell these guys to shut up tommorrow. LOL
That will require more than a bandaid to cover up.
I heard him say this. He said he backed Gore, and if it wasn't for Kerry, he would have liked to vote for Edwards for president. He said Edwards was "my man".
But never in a million years would he vote for Kerry. Kerry is not fit to be commander in chief.
I hope this experience opens his eyes to the democrats and the media. I know his problem is with Kerry, but it's not only Kerry who is now smearing O'Neill. It's the entire party, including Edwards, and most of the media.
I hope O'Neill realizes that Bush has received the same treatment from the media that he himself has been getting, only more so. O'Neill's impression of Bush as an empty suit is the direct result of the same kind of lies which are giving some people the impression that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth are a Republican front group.
"Kerry is not fit to be commander in chief."
That's clear, but neither is Edwards.
I'm thankful he did. It lends credibility to the Swifties. Let the Left try to spin this one.
Kerry is a bunny suit.:-)
Maybe, but also possible O'Neil assumes Republicans would respond in kind if it were their guy having these charges levied.
At any rate it is insignificant.
O'Neil is a Patriot. That is why he cannot tolerate a Traitor as Commander-In-Chief. He is wrong in his assessment of Bush, but he has been upfront he trended toward liberalism. My impression is he is a honest and intelligent man that places his country above partisanship. He has first hand knowledge that makes Kerry unacceptable to lead our men and women in battle. That is why he has stepped forward.
O'Neil is the type of Liberal the Democratic party used to have some regard for. We can argue the merits of Conservatisism and Liberalism forever but there once was a time when we all put our country's best interests first, simply disagreeing on how best to serve her. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case.
Sure. 'Spitball' Matthews won't mind telling America that O'Neill thought Bush was an empty suit who didn't deserve to be president!
That deserved to be repeated. It's right on.
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if O'Neill has changed his mind somewhat since the "empty suit" comment.
two lawyers- enough said about how they view qualifications.
