Manson Family Member Van Houten Loses Parole Bid
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A California prison board on Wednesday refused for the 15th time to parole Leslie Van Houten, a Charles Manson disciple who was sentenced to life behind bars for her role in the sensational cult murders. Van Houten, now 55 and serving her sentence at the California Institution for Women in Frontera, was rejected in her bid for parole despite a tearful apology for her part in the grisly 1969 crimes.

The former homecoming princess admitted to holding down Rosemary LaBianca while two other Manson followers, Charles "Tex" Watson and Patricia Krenwinkel stabbed her, then plunging the knife into LaBianca at least 14 times.

Is the Parole Board required to state a reason for the denial?

I'm thinkin' it's because she stuck a fork in Rosemay LaBianca's stomach.

She and the rest of Manson's evil hippies were supposed to have been gas chambered years ago.
If it were any other state, I'd say 'why do they even try?'. I believe they'll eventually parole everyone but Charlie once they're withered and gray.

From AP
Manson Follower Van Houten Denied Parole
CORONA, Calif. - Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten was denied parole for a 15th time on Wednesday, just over 35 years after the notorious Tate-LaBianca murders. "She was denied for an additional two years and the board ordered a new psychological evaluation for the next hearing," said Board of Prison Terms spokesman Bill Sessa.
Two nephews and a niece of Rosemary and Leno LaBianca presented victim impact statements to the board, meeting at the California Institution for Women. Van Houten, 54, also spoke, Sessa said. He gave no details.
(snip)
The board has repeatedly cited the callousness, viciousness and calculation of the seven murders in denying parole for members of the so-called Manson Family.

I'm not defending her, per se..don't know enough about her case..was asking about the process..how it works...there are evil people who should never get out...but some can be rehabilitated after a long time inside...the question is if she was denied parole simply because of the notoriety of the case..

And we can "thank" the 1972 Supreme Court for permanently commuting all death sentences to "life."

Tell that to Rose Bird, who decided after the SCOTUS decided that the death penalty was unconstitutional, commuted their sentences.
I, personally, think Leslie should be cut loose.

The enormity of the crimes should be enough.
Apparently, she's been the "model prisoner", but I wouldn't trust her not to fall in with another bad influence if released.

OK. All I remember is her stating that she was fascinated after she plunged it in his stomach, watching it wiggle back and forth.
