Statement By Gov. Marc Racicot (On 527s)
George W. Bush ^ | August 24, 2004

Posted on 08/24/2004 9:17:49 AM PDT by RWR8189

ARLINGTON, VA -- Bush-Cheney '04 Campaign Chairman Gov. Marc Racicot today issued the following statement:

"The moment of truth for John Kerry has come and gone hundreds of times, and he has passed up every opportunity to condemn efforts by his campaign and supporters to divide America by who served and how - something that John Kerry said we should never do when he declared during the 1992 campaign, 'We do not need to divide America over who served and how.'

"President Bush stands with all Americans who want to see shadowy political activity removed from American politics. We call on John Kerry to join us in condemning all political activity by 527 groups. There's no place in American politics for $63 million in third party activity that smears the President of the United States of America by accusing him of lying, condoning torture and poisoning pregnant women, and we look forward to scrutiny of the activities of Democratic 527s such as The Media Fund and ACT by those in the media."

Kerry is incapable of admitting a mistake, and its killing his campaign.

Never met a liberal that could admit a mistake, so it comes as no surprise.

Whats really amusing is this swiftboat stuff should have been at best a 72 hour news story. But Kerry's bungling has blown it up to such a HUGE campaign issue, its all over but the voting.

I think the most satisfying part is Kerry's display of rank arrogance and hypcrisy. All he had to do was call for ALL 527's to stop running commercials, and that would have been that.

The President is fortunate he has an opponent this political inept, folks.

If it wasn't for that odious and stupid law called CFR, free political speech as guaranteed in the Constitution wouldn't be threatened.

Congress critters better get to repeling that thing after silly season.

Nice dream but the libtards are the ony ones that THEY deem worthy of the First Amendment, heck, the Second as well.

Like Bubba Klinton said, "The main problem with the US is that EVERYONE gets their say!"

(start Urkel whine) "Oops, did I say thattttttttttttt" (end Urkel whine.)

TWO WORDS: FIRST AMENDMENT.

Exactly! If you can't take the heat, stay out of the race. We the public can sort it out. The ads have ultra power only because the accused and their media pals (in Kerry's case) overreact to them. I loathe watching MoveOn.org blather on during every commercial break. But they can't make me vote or think their way. If anything, they strengthen my resolve. So so what? Let them speak.

I'm bothered by both campaigns quick to condemn 527's. Sure they can be used to tell lies (MoveOn.org) but its free speech.

How can anyone in a position of power stand against the 1 amendment? Its disheartening Bush didn't say "I have been subjected to these 527's type of groups ever since I have been elected and I know the American people see through their lies by my actions. I will not support limiting anyone's free speech."

Its all political but still, I'm bummed.

Like thats really gonna happen. However - I hope this is just the beginning shot across the bow of the MSM in regards to their overt bias in the coverage of this issue. The pubbies need to constantly point out that ALL 527's require the same scrutiny that the honorable Swifty's are getting. I dont care if the media doesnt cover it but - I think we gain alot more if we continue to point out the lack of coverage the MSM gives it.

Evidently not:

Presidental eletion 1992

Presidental eletion 1996

Having said that, I agree with your point. It's a bad law, Bush should have vetoed it.

Exactly what the Republicans were saying when the stupid 527 law was written! They were just being evil Republicans. Thank Mr. McCain, you RINO!

LOL! Well, I didn't say we were all that collectively wise. We can come to our own conclusions, smart or not. LOL! People just genuinely didn't care that Clinton perjured himself. They were not snowed by independent groups. They were snowed by Clinton himself, and his thug media friends.

The keyword is ALL folks. The Buchanonites can pi$$ and moan all they want about the First Amendment, but it boils down to the fact that Kerry demands the government silence the Swift Boat Vets for Truth, while encouraging by it's silence all the hate ads (and F-911 is nothing but a long hate ad) against Kerry's opponent.

87% of 527 ads are funded by Democrats.

Note to Kerry: Our freedom of speech has been paid for by our military. The First Amendment is a two way street. You told the president to bring it on and he has. Now either put up or STFU.

McCain Feingold is a bad law. It's a shame the president didn't veto it - of course, he'd have been blasted for two years for denying the little guy the right to speak - Moveon's pre-Soros/CFR mission was giving the little guy the chance to have a voice in the election process. Now they're gleefully carrying out the REAL mission, which is getting Commie Kerry into office.

Truer words were never spoken BibChr. I hate to say it, but I have had more doubts about the intellect of the American voter more than ever before. I am aware there have been down and dirty political goings on for years, but I have noticed a change in the last 10 years like never before. Has the most corrupt administration ever....(you know who I'm talking about).....had that much of an effect on society today? I fear it has. I've never wanted to be so wrong in my life.

I totally agree, though I think Clinton was as much a symptom as he was a cause. I remember hearing a Christian speaker at the start of the Clinton years saying that some were warning that Clinton would bring God's judgment. He replied that Clinton WAS a judgment from God, which I thought (and think) true.

This is where I part company with Rush and Hugh Hewitt, when they say voters aren't stupid. Explain Clinton I, and when you're done with that, explain Clinton II. Then explain Hillary, Barbara Boxer, Maxine Waters, and on and on and on.

As long as it is more than two days before the presidential election, and as long as Kerry is within 40 points of Bush, I'm not relaxing.

Dan

Sick; sick, of listening to Repubs not getting to the heart of the matter; and appearing always on the defense.

Marc was just on Fox News; offering the same; and of what appears to be the questionable 'groupthink-standard response' to Kerry's service ie. . .'I applaud Kerry's service in Vietnam; just as the Presidente does' ad nauseum. . .

This is a totally, wimpy, barfy copout.

At the least and most honest; would be to say; they 'assume'or add a 'as far as I know' preface to ' Kerry has served honorably. . .

Also Marc - as does Bush - reference Move.on in same category of 'smearing' as Swift Vet ads.

I am furious and sick. . .(they worry about criticising Edward's 'ambulance chasing'; as a potentially alienating tactic;. . .

. . .want them to give as much consideration and thought to our Swiftboat Veterans as well; who are putting themselves on the line to stop a Kerry presidency.

I want to see some genuine albeit 'Bush-style-gentlemanly' fighting spirit here. E-mailed my 'concerns' this morning; do hope others will do the same:
