Yeah, but in December 1968 Kerry was NOT assigned to An Thoi.

He was assigned to a location whose name I can't recall exactly, but it is on the east coast of Vietnam near Cam Ranh Bay. It is nowhere near Cambodia, and it is nowhere near a riverine system that leads to Cambodia.

Yes, correct. To help you recall, Kerry was stationed at Coastal Division 13, at CAT LO. They could and did go up to SA DEC. However, as pointed out, SA DEC is some way from the Cambodian border. 90 kilometers is indeed NOT "just over the Cambodian border." Here's Kerry's sworn testimony again:

Actually he was at An Thoi December 6 to 13 (having been in Vietman since November 17 - wouldn't that be enough experinence for a super secret mission?)

Record shows he was assigned to Cam Ranh, then moved to An Thoi for one week-Dec. 6,1968-Dec.13. Then back to Cam Ranh.

RE:Access to Mekong/Cambodia via waterways? Much of the delta flooded at various times. What was dry land one week, was a waterway next week.

No expert here on Kerry's service. I served at other end of map. But I do know I walked through rivers/streams that were not on any map...

Also, some have questioned Kerry's service on PCF as being "safe." That is, not goin up inland waterways. In fact his second choice was PBRs. Not exactly a request for "light duty."
