ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura will participate in a conference call next week to help launch a new group called Operation Truth, an organization being created "to give voice to troops who served in Iraq."
The New York-based group is holding its official launch party and fund-raiser Wednesday, according to its Web site, http://www.paulrieckhoff.com/
The site lists its mission as: "Operation Truth will educate the American public about the truth of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan from the perspective of the soldiers who have experienced them firsthand. We will provide returning veterans with national, regional and local podiums from which they will expose the preventable hardships that they endured as a result of failures at the top levels of leadership."
It also says the group plans to publicize how "poorly planned policies and approaches have manifested themselves as problems on the front lines and back at home."
Joining Ventura on Tuesday's conference call will be Paul Rieckhoff, an infantry platoon leader in Iraq and the founder of the organization, and Bobby Muller of the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation. Ventura was a Navy SEAL.
The conference call's organizers said Friday that no additional information was immediately available about whether Ventura would have an ongoing role in the organization.
Former Ventura staffer David Ruth, now of Ruthless Media, and Linda Fisher of Northwoods Advertising, which did advertisements for Ventura's gubernatorial campaign, were helping promote the event.
Jesse must be missing the spotlight. This is ill-concieved.
Why didn't I think of that. Dammit! All the good anti-Bush organization ideas are already taken. Soros will be out of money by the time I can think of something and write my grant proposal.
It's sad to see so many willingly used and falling for for such a pitiful cause in the guise of getting the "truth" out.
I wonder if Jesse will be wearing his pink feather boa.He should...it will bolster his credibility...as the KOOK he is.
The John Kerry of 2034.
Don't we all wish the Michael Moores, and Anti-Bushists, and anti-war people would all go to Iraq and peddle their tripe to the Iraqis?
I wouldn't be surprised if they spent most of their time trying to convince people they were better off under Saddam. Assuming someone didn't slap them around for being so naive about what it is like living under a power hungry dictator.
Gee, the war wasn't absolutely perfect.
No he wasn't !
He was a frogman!
The DemoRats are leading the crusade for the demoralization of America.
Great, Jessie. Turn the country against this war in time to get Kerry elected.
Very dangerous stuff. Very dangerous stuff.
This country really feels like its over. Nobody is responsible and nobody thinks before they act. This will only help the insurgency. This is really dangerous, divisive stuff. Who's funding it?
Soros, Heinz, etc?
This is really nasty stuff. This is really bad.
Would there be a Rieckhoff if Kerry had gotten his?
This nation's refusal to shun Kerry the Traitor has spurred on SOBs like RDDB Rieckhoffman to stab the country in the back during war time. Very sad!!!
This is so wrong and so predictable. Kerry is definitely funding this. This is IVAW --Iraqi Veterans Against the War.
Kerry's treason is ACTIVE!!!
That's the way I read it, too.
Dream on!!!
No way. Who's funding them?
This guy Riechhofman should just get a one on one with the Sec Def and say what's on his mind. Launching a demoralizing, self promoting media jihad against the war and the administration helps no one. This is 80 days out of election day and it is designed to help an obvious traitor who voted for the war and refused to provide the troops with body armor and spare parts once he put them in harm's way.
Riechhoffman and the failed, egomaniacal former Governor should go F themselves.
What about the thousands of troops in Iraq that BELIEVE in their mission? Will they be given a voice within this group as they return home?
Substitute IRAQ and AFGHANISTAN for any war in American history and the same issues apply. Air support, drop zones, and landing sites were all screwed up on D-Day, but we still won the war. These are people who think a war can be programmed like an engineering effort. War is hell, messy, and confused. You make the best plans possible and then let the boots on the ground modify it as necessary.
I wonder if Jesse's Operation TRUTH group will also give a voice to those soldiers who are PROUD of what they have done to help Iraqis get their country back working for all of the people again, not just for Sadaam's favored few.
"Ordinarily he was insane, but he had lucid moments when he was merely stupid."
Heinrich Heine
