Crimes rates shoot up in Mexico

MEXICO CITY, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Mexico has seen a dramatic increase in crime in the first seven months of 2004, El Universal reported Friday.

Crime rates increased by as much as 50 percent in 14 states, said figures released Thursday by the Mexican justice department, known as the PGR.

Nationwide, 636 crimes were committed daily, including homicide, rape, robbery and kidnapping. During the first seven months of 2004, a total 137,517 crimes were reported.

The PGR noted the figures do not reflect all criminal statistics in the country, since 17 states only submitted data for the first half of 2004, which did not include numbers from the month of July.

However, in four states, crime has decreased since the beginning of the year, including Oaxaca, Mexico City, San Luis Potosi and Jalisco.

One of my cousins just moved his family from there to the States.

He said life in Mexico is virtually unbearable. No one is safe. Virtually everyone he knows has been a victim of a violent crime (mugging, robbery).

Wonderful country Mexico. And let's not forget that 95% of active homicide cases in Los Angeles were caused by illegal aliens. Did you know that they are "hard working"?

Yes, and they're only committing the murders Americans won't commit!

I'm having a hard time believing this. Can you cite a source?

Hey, the little guys are being to wonder why Presidente Fox, the Panistas and the drug lords are the only ones profiting by drugs, illegal transport of people, terrorists, stealing cars, kidnapping, weapons and all the other crimes that pay well. This is just the natural response of the peons who want to share in the good life. There may be some Pri-istas who are feeling left out who stole a gun to eneter a life of crime.

The trick word is "active." I'm sure that means unsolved. If they ran back to Mexico, then it remains unsolved. And, many of these cases build up.

Just for talking sake, IF there are 1,000 murders over some time period, and 40 % of them are by illegal Mexicans, THEN all but 100 of the 400 might remain unsolved. But nearly all of the black, white, American Hispanic murders that make up the 60 % are solved.

Therefore 100 / (100 + 5) => 95 per cent.

Although the crimes are alarming, the calculation of 95 per cent is perfectly reasonable. But quoting the number this way probably understates the amount of their true carnage (400 in the time period above).

Remember, these numbers keep building year by year. So the percentage keeps going up.

Hoppy

This statement is ridiculous and not even romotely true.

Are you sure it's ridiculous? I would think there are many murders committed by their offspring who were born here and some legal immigrants also --- but have you looked at the crime rates and the type of violence going on in Mexico lately?

Fox sent them all to America. Free health care, free legal defense - why commit crime in Mexico when you can come here, and be welcomed by both political parties, as you rape, rob, plunder and push Americans out of their neighborhoods.

My little city has about 10,000 illegals that the Catholic Church brought in. Suddenly, we're having gang wars, and the police are being accused of unnecessary force while trying to keep the peace. An investigation is in progress now. I see our police going to jail while the scum sit back and laugh, and the lawyers collect my tax money.

Thanks -- that makes sense. Throwing in the "active" aspect overemphasises the illegals' part in the overall homicide situation.

So it's OK if "only" 40% of the people murdered were killed by people who shouldn't have even been in this country?

No, it's not OK. What's not OK is using statistics manipulatively.

That tricky 95% stat strikes me as being a bit StormFrontish.

I think you could do your own research here

http://www.lapdonline.com

to see what kinds of criminal ratios there might be. Lots of LA murderers on this link --- and it's not from strom front.

And Mexico wants to export their criminals and surplus population to the US.

Check the link I posted just above --- and really do you think 95% is a ridiculous figure? I think it's at least 95%.

Mexico has seen a dramatic increase in crime in the first seven months of 2004, El Universal reported Friday.

I guess we can all judge Vicente Fox's performance by the way crime has gone and also by the number of people who are trying to flee their own country. Obviously he has been a very dismal leader, his policies of improving the economy by making it so bad that people leave and hopefully send some dollars back are a huge failure. Our leaders should have had enough vision to see that Fox's plan was extremely short-sighted and would ruin Mexico even more than it was.
