Peculiar as in implying that Governor Schwarzenegger should perhaps be recalled because he allows some bridge tolls to go to $4. That's very peculiar.

So, here's another bump to your thread. You're welcome.

Not just $4, but up to $5 ... where does it end?

Thanks again.

Senate Majority Leader Don Perata, D-Oakland, is favored to succeed Senate President Pro Tem John Burton, D-San Francisco, next week as the Legislature winds up it's 2004 session.

Holy Crap! Going from bad to worse. When is Perata term-limited out?

From Washington to Sacramento, leaders were left with mouths agape by the scope of the compact to be announced today between Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Lytton Band of Pomo Indians, which will herald the likely development of a six- to eight-story casino with 5,000 slot machines in the center of San Pablo, less than a quarter mile from Interstate 80.

The nine-acre site came to the Lyttons as part of legislation by Rep. George Miller, D-Martinez, who sought to allow the landless tribe to have a parcel of land placed into trust. The tribe currently operates a card room on the land.

Here it comes.... your community casino, whether you want it or not. It is legalized gambling masked as a solution to Native American issues. The folks benefiting from this are the same ones benefiting from casinos in Las Vegas and New Jersey. And aided and abetted by our own politicians. What a crock.

Here's another one in the news :

Tribe near Ramona talks with Garden Grove official

San Diego Union Tribune
August 19, 2004

Exploring a long-shot development proposition, an Orange County city manager went tribe-shopping this summer and found one in North County.

The Mesa Grande Indian band doesn't have a state gambling compact, and its isolated reservation northeast of Ramona wouldn't draw much casino traffic. But tribal officials agreed to meet with Garden Grove City Manager Matt Fertal and Las Vegas resort mogul Steve Wynn to discuss the possibility of developing a hotel-casino in the city near Disneyland.

So you admitted that local politcal stooge's cosmetic requirements were the cause of the cost over-run. It only seem FAIR for the locals to suffer the consequence: be responsible for your special demands. A $4, $5 bridge toll is nothing compared to NYC as others have posted.

The state does not have extra funding to throw around for stuff like this. This isn't earthquake-related repair, fire-related rebuilding or anything like that. This is about prettying up a bridge!

Those "locals" were all in state government at one time or another and used their persuasive powers to get the state to roll over.

No free passes on this one, imo. Besides by the time new revenue sources were found, besides tolls... it'll be a year or two before anything gets on a ballot.

What's a few more cents out of the general fund anyway these days?

Heck, take it out of Willie Brown and Jerry Brown's slush funds. ;-)

And whose fault is that?

Don't ya just love NoFault Government.

It took a recall to make some folks realize that politicos are answerable to the electorate .. if the electorate can be educated, even slightly, as to where all the money really goes...

Charge $10 and lower the math requirements for the staff.
