Excellent.
I normally couldn't care less about Soccer or the Olympics, but I have a team to root for now.
Go Iraq!

Umm, I believe the American soccer team is actually competitive this year.

WOW. I can't believe they won, this is a major upset. Perhaps there was some Divine intervention.

Agreed. Great news for President Bush too.
The Olympics will be a great boon for the President. Every time Iraq pulls off another victory, people will be reminded that under Uday and Quassay the athlete would be killed if they lost.
Just being able to walk in the stadium for the Opening Ceremony will be quite a site.

I hope not. If the American team wins that means we'll be subjected to that garbage from now on.
Keep Soccer off my TV!

Ya know, this could turn into a plus if the Iraqis see that we are rooting for them to win...
To: TomB
A famous win, as they say. Portugal has some high-powered players on their team. Good for the Iraqis.

First the US in World Cup 2002, Greece in Euro 2004 and now Iraq. Seems the Portugese national team is a bit overrated, or over confident.

This truly is an amazing upset. Portugal's star, Cristiano Ronaldo, was playing as well.

A medal by Iraq would be huge not just in Iraq but in the Arab world. It could be historic.....in what way, I'm not sure, but being an optimist I believe it will be for the good. And I'll bet it takes away attention from the Najaf battle and the death (please) of Sadr.

I just pray they have the class to recognize in some small way the countries who made this possible.
