When leftist billionaires such as George Soros, Stephen Bing, Peter Lewis and Ron Burkle donate to 527s and other groups trying to defeat President Bush, the media make, maybe, a passing reference to their Democrat party ties. For the most part, these donors are simply portrayed as "philanthropists."But when a wealthy conservative Republican donates to help the president, every donation he ever made and every Republican connection he ever had must be unearthed and splashed across the papers.
After all, there must be a vast right-wing conspiracy at work.
Take, for instance, Texas homebuilder Robert J. "Bob" Perry, who donated $100,000 to Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, which is countering John Kerrys claims about the Vietnam War.
This weekend, the Los Angeles Times - the same paper that tried to destroy candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger but refused to report Gray Davis' history of violence against women - conducted a full investigation of Perry's donations.
As it turns out, Perry, 71, who lives in the suburbs of Houston, has also helped fund a number of GOP candidates in the area, the Times fretted.
The paper says so far he's given some $5 million to political candidates.
"And the vast majority of those people have never laid eyes on him," Court Koenning, executive director of the Republican Party in Harris County, told the paper.
You might think that a person giving such sums of money to political candidates and causes might want a little more attention. Perry doesn't, however.
He "is reticent and guarded, and remains something of a mystery in Texas," complained the Times. (Translation: Perry doesnt give interviews to biased media.)
Swift Boat Veterans for Truth received a $100,000 check from Perry, about two-thirds of the money the group had in its account as of June 30, financial documents reviewed by the Times revealed. In all, said other reports, the group had $158,750.
The Bush campaign says it isn't tied to the group, and there is no evidence of any ties.
But the Times and others are trying to show a vast conspiracy between Perry, the candidates he has donated to (such as President Bush), and Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.
By the way, Perry has also donated to Democrats.
The Republican Party is not the only major party to get "outside" help from wealthy donors.
Soros, for example, has given more that $15 million to leftist and Democrat causes. Nor does Perrys $100,000 donation compare to Bruce Springsteen and other rockers who are out raising $44 million for Kerry.
Republican give to Republican causes and Democrats give to Democrat causes....surprise!
Yes, but it only counts when it's a democrat donation...if it's a Republican donating to a Republican...it's a conspiracy!

It would be interesting to know the current numbers.
Hey, it's a free country. Perry can do what he wants with his money.
TO THE LA SLIMES: Deal with it punks; deal with it.
Only to the liberal media is someone who donates money but doesn't demand access and political favors considered "sinister."
Mr. Perry gives money to candidates and causes that he apparently believes in.
George Soros gives money to candidates and causes that he believes he can control.
Pray for W and Our Troops
Everyone with facts about Kerry's cowardice and his treason (while he was in the USNR) is being attacked and smeared. Every whine emphasizes that they can not dispute the facts. They can't release his records that would only prove that he's lying. They can't get forgeries or get them placed in time. Everything these scumbags say/do only proves Kerry is dirty, very dirty.
There is only one thing Kerry can do. RESIGN KERRY, RESIGN!!
"KERRY, APOLOGIZE, ASK FORGIVENESS AND RESIGN!!"
at noon today I just finished reading the August 11, 2004 edition of the Los Angeles Times Westside Edition and there were NO stories about the Swift Boat Veterans. Astonishingly the Los Angeles Times has missed the biggest bombshell story of the year! Imagine that! [this post is dated August 11, 2004]
Who reads la time TABLOID.

One rebuttal to the attack on Bob Perry donating to the SwiftVets is that he also donates to Democrats....
Here is one donation, for example, to Sheila Jackson Lee....
PERRY, BOB

oh let them keep looking for THe Vast Rightwing Conspiracy (sp) it might keep them from doing any real harm. Like those scavenger hunts at camp and parties to keep the little ones occupied. I myself am shocked to discover that people will give money to causes that reflect their beliefs and values. NOT. Since the Left believe in taking my money to give to causes and values I oppose I can understand their total chagrin with that concept. By the way where do I get my "I Love The VRWC" button and banner ?
We each need to donate $25 to the Swift Vets to counter this type of attack. Let the LA Times try to spin 5000 donations of $25 bucks each!
