I am more pessimistic than you are. The black vote will not budge. It is *primarily" motivated by ideology not the skin color of particular candidates. Blacks are ideologically predisposed to vote Democratic and it wouldn't matter if Bush chose Rice as a veep though he might do a bit bitter if he chose a moderate type like Powell.

Keyes, on the other hand, will be dismissed by black voters as beyond the pale as...he was in Maryland....as he was when he ran for president. I used to believe otherwise but no longer do.
