What Tom Brokaw would have done in response to "America is under attack."

Posted on 08/06/2004 4:26:52 AM PDT by The G Man

On Imus this morning, Tom Brokaw was talking about how when he went to see Fahrenheit 911 and it got to the part where Bush sat there for 7 minutes, he (Brokaw) kept thinking, "You just wanted the guy to stand up and say (GET THIS!):

'Sorry, kids. The President has to go. America is under attack.'

What the??? Yeah, Tom, THAT'S what he should've done! Scare the crap out of a bunch of little kids by telling them "AMERICA IS UNDER ATTACK!"

First time for everything, I suppose.

Most Dem talking points come from Michael Moore these days.

What Kerry did on 9/11 (as you know):

"...And as I came in [to a meeting in Sen. Daschle's office], Barbara Boxer and Harry Reid were standing there, and we watched the second plane come in to the building. And we shortly thereafter sat down at the table and then we just realized nobody could think [for FORTY MINUTES], and then boom, right behind us, we saw the cloud of explosion at the Pentagon..."

'Sorry, kids. The President has to go. America is under attack.'

At which point the Secret Service stops you in the hallway and says "You'll have to wait here Mr. President, until we secure the grounds and plan an alternate route to the airport. It should only take about 5-7 minutes."

At which point the press films you nervously pacing in a elementary school hallway.

No one seems to have an answer to this question: where should the President have gone? Remember, apparently the Secret Service had been seeing Arabs following him all morning, some with video cameras (think Ahmed Shah Massoud).

I guess my question to all the Moores and Brokjaws in this world is, right after the first jet hit, did anyone know this was a deliberate attack, and even if they did what would the president do, launch missles at every possible enemy of this country. I am quite certain that hundreds if not thousands of people were doing their jobs getting the info the president needed to make the proper decisions, thats what the President needed to do , wait for info and be calm. Frankly if this is all these "idiots" can come up with against Bush all I can say is Landslide

What! Brokaw would have preferred the President stand up and "rush to war"? This 7 minute criticism is idiocy. What possible change in any outcome could have come from such an action? It's a childish argument - again symbolism over substance that characterizes the Democrat party. And now that the topic is brought up I don't recall ever seeing any of the Clinton Administration making any haste about stopping Al Qaeda.

I can't believe John Kerry, Tom Brokaw even raised this issue. For most of my life, I have always responded to crisis like it was the end of the world. When I got older, I finally realized that panic and thrashing around was going to get very little done. Now, I ponder, stand back, reflect, get the facts, get counsel and then, and only then move forward. When President Bush received the news, the damage, resulting from years of neglect of previous administrations was done. The President racing out of the room was not going to accomplish anything! It's the system that should have responded, not one man! The President immediately assumed the leadership needed to cope with the situation. Seven minutes one way or the other would not have changed anything!

Well well, the talking points are making the rounds again.

First time I heard this from someone before F-11 was released was from Ms. Breitweisser.

So now the circle is complete.

I can answer you FOR A FACT that the networks (MSNBC and Fox primarily) did not believe strongly if at all that this was a terror attack. I was watching the aftermath of the first hit and was amazed that the anchors were acting like this was an accident (I mean, we all remember that the Empire State Building was hit by a WWII bomber in the fog). I was SCREAMING at the TV - the weather was CLEAR - airplanes don't hit WTC towers in the clear! It wasn't until the second impact that they figured it out.

Ditto. The attack that changed the world for all of us deserved at least 7 minutes of thought prior to action. This line of attack for the dems is so low.

Don't forget that on LKAlive, Terraayyzzaa mentioned twice.....and you walked out with John McCain. Which raised Larry's eyebrows so he repeated that statement as a question and Kerry agreed, he walked out with John McCain.

I'd like to ask John McCain what he was doing at a DEMOCRAT leadership meeting in Daschle's office.

The demo-commies would have complained about anthing President Bush did in that situation. I know he did the right thing, protocol was in place and why terrify the school children. Dems never have an answer just criticism, unless it is one of them. Bush/Cheney 2044

Yup. Bush was supposed to run off half-cocked like the media always does when they get a new story & inevitably get it wrong.

If President Bush had acted immediately, we would have been able to begin the preinvasion bombing of Afghanistan at 12:23pm EDT October 7, 2001 instead of having to wait until 12:30. < /sarcasm>
