NBC 24 has learned that the Davis-Besse nuclear power station nuclear reactor shut down at 10:24 a.m. today and remains idle at this hour. A Nuclear Regulatory Commission spokesperson tells NBC 24 that inspectors are unsure as to what caused the reactor to shut down. The NRC also says that all safety systems at D-B performed properly.

NBC 24 will have more information throughout the day. You can get a complete update on the shutdown on NBC 24 News At Five.

Yet another problem at Davis-Besse?

Who would've thunk it?

What utter Barbara Streisand! Or is it in this case Jane Fonda? "inspectors are unsure as to what caused the reactor to shut down."

Making some broad assumptions; what caused the reactor to shut down? The rods went in. What caused the rods to go in? The reactor protection system detected a potentially unsafe condition. What 'condition'? And on and on and on.

Are things safe? Presumably. Might the protection system caused a overly aggressive shut down? Maybe but that's what the NIMBY public demands.

I am not sure its directly related, but this reactor had previous problems and is under scrutiny:

The NRC heightened its regulatory oversight of the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station due to the discoveries of reactor pressure vessel head degradation. Gee, what was it, a 3 week run since they powered that piece of crap back up? Cedar Point should buy the damn place and open up "Nuclear World."

The facility is having major trouble due to years and years of neglect. Maintenance started becoming an issue about 15 years ago; hasn't improved since, in my opinion.

Your ability to cut-and-paste is not evidence of your understanding. Much of my career was spent directing some aspect of 'degradation' repair. Yawn.
