Thwack is a secular term that Roman Catholics, Roman Catolics(sic), Jews, Protestants, agnostics, atheists,et al are at liberty to use.

Thwack is a canonical procedure whereby a Bishop dispatches an old-fashioned nun, armed with a 12" metal ruler, to apply appropriate discipline to a public miscreant.

It's what the nuns hit us with in parochial grade school, they usually used a ruler. Then if you went to a Catholic high school and you were lucky enough to be taught by the Christian Brothers, they used a paddle about 3 feet long with holes in it(for less wind resistance)... Oh to be Catholic and go to Catholic schools... a privilege I will cherish for the rest of my life. LMAO
