Michael Moore's fakery fest "Fahrenheit 9/11" features in one of its scenes a newspaper headline that reads: "Latest Florida recount shows Gore won election."
The words were apparently designed to perpetuate the myth that Bush "stole" the 2000 presidential election.
A lawyer for the Pantagraph newspaper in Bloomington, Ill., sent a letter to Moore accusing him of misappropriating the headline from the Pantagraph's pages.
The headline did appear in the Pantagraph, but only on the letters-to-the-editor page, and was intended only to reflect the letter writer's sentiments.
According to the Pantagraph's Web site, the lawyer's letter also charges Moore with unauthorized and misleading use of its material and copyright infringement.
The paper is seeking an apology, an explanation of the discrepancy and compensatory damages of one dollar.
The Left Coast Report says if Moore's credibility sinks any lower, Terry McAuliffe might be out of a job

Just taking a few artistic liberties.

This is a perfect one to bookmark. Not because micheal moore is so important, but because he's so adored by the radical left. Anyone who knows such people personally will undoubtedly have to face this exact point in an argument someday. Thus, a perfect bookmark, for the future debate with a leftist idiot.

Isn't it unfortunate that the left will gladly sink to any depth to destroy the character and credibility of President Bush? Come to think of it, 'unfortunate' isn't the best word here, 'frightening' is more appropriate.

The paper is seeking an apology, an explanation of the discrepancy and compensatory damages of one dollar. One dollar? They don't seem terribly upset about it.
Perhaps the paper is owned by these guys?

How can you judge you their outrage simply by the amount of currency they are seeking? Is it your contention that one's feeling about a certain issue can only be measured by the amount of money one demands in compensation?

Poor Michael Moore. He can't win. If he steals someone else's stuff, we accuse him of plagarism. If he doesn't, we say he faked the headlines. We're so mean. Poor Michael Moore.

Except exemplary damgages, the measure of damages is a measure of loss, not of outrage.
And exemplary damages will not lie in this case.
(In your jurisdiction, "exemplary damages" may perhaps be called "punitive damages".)

Except exemplary damgages, the measure of damages is a measure of loss, not of outrage. That's a good point, compensatory damages are a measure of actual loss. By asking for only one dollar, you would think they suffered no loss at all and the dollar is little more than symbolic. Why even bother with it?
Why wouldn't exemplary damages lie in this case? The paper was clearly misrepresented.
