4 years after return to Cuba, Elian a normal schoolboy

NEW YORK - (KRT) - Elian Gonzalez, now 10, hits the books in Cardenas, Cuba, where he lives with his father.

Four years after little Elian Gonzalez was plucked from the seas off Florida's coast and sparked an international custody battle, the young boy is leading a sheltered and almost normal life back in Cuba.

Elian lives with his father in their hometown of Cardenas and he still sports the same impish grin that captivated the world back in 2000.

In an interview with NBC's "Dateline" to air Sunday, Elian's father, Juan Miguel Gonzalez, says he has generally kept Elian out of the limelight, even moving to a secret location in town to avoid the press.

"The media (in Miami) intimidated him, pressured him most of all," Gonzalez said in his first interview in three years. "It totally overwhelmed him."

As Elian's American relatives fought to keep him in the U.S. and his father sought to take him back to Cuba, hundreds of reporters camped out outside their Miami home, recording every movement of the photogenic little boy.

The custody clash even led to a war of words between Cuban dictator Fidel Castro and the boy's fiercely anti-Castro American relatives.

The stalemate ended dramatically as heavily armed federal officers stormed the house in the middle of the night, snatched the terrified boy and took him into protective custody.

Elian still grieves for his mother who drowned when their boat capsized on its way to Florida, Gonzalez said, but he has adjusted to life well.

"I can truly say that since his return, my son has never had to see a psychologist, or anyone else," Gonzalez told "Dateline NBC."

Elian is learning karate and has two girlfriends, Gonzalez reports.

It is abhorrent that we cast a kid into communist hands.

His relatives in Miami were fit people living in a decent land.

The Daily News is printing it, because NBC Dateline is airing the interview:

"In an interview with NBC's "Dateline" to air Sunday, Elian's father, Juan Miguel Gonzalez, says he has generally kept Elian out of the limelight, even moving to a secret location in town to avoid the press."

And I bet they are not asking any hard questions either, letting him get away with these lies.

Yeah, he hadn't seen his disinterested dad for years until he returned to Cuba.

Years? He was barely "Years" old. He seemed pretty content with his father to me. No, he doesn't realize what Cuba's all about yet, but I just can't condone keeping a young child from his only living parent for political reasons.

It was an ugly situation but I have to side with "Family" here.

"I can truly say that since his return, my son has never had to see a psychologist, or anyone else,"

Yeah, it`s called living in fear. You don`t dare make Fidel Casshole look bad. Sort of like that Oliver Stone HBO show on Casshole when Oliver interviews the prisoners with Casshole sitting two feet away from them.. "How are you treated in prison?" "Oh I am treated very fairly and I deserve to be here for trying to escape Cuba. I could have harmed many people. I am perfectly fine and in great health" Meanwhile the guy is eating piss for breakfast and going out of mind doing 25 years in a rat hole.

Oh really?

Reports at the time said he hadn't seen him since he was an infant.

He had NO role in the boys life.

The "father" was just a TOOL of the regime.

Elian was rescued by a sport fisherman from Miami,

I thought he was rescued by a barber.

At least, that's what the barber said all over television.

If that story about the guy being his father was true, why didn't they let it go through the courts?

A dna test would have proved it,(if true) the courts could have ruled accordingly, and nobody would have been pinned to the pavement by the neck by the jackboots of Klintonite thugs. No one's home need have been violated. No one need have a machine gun stuck in his face, with finger on the trigger.

Years, yes. The boy was six, hadnt seen his "father" since before he was one. That's 5 years.

The only "father" anyone has in Cuba is Fidel. That's in their Constitution.

I still remember seeing the photograph on Drudge that April Sunday morning. I thought I was in the twilight zone. I also had that feeling during the weeks of impeachment right after Bill's second Monica war: "Operation Desert Fox." There is some kind of mass amnesia working when people seem to deliberately forget the worst of Clinton's atrocities in favor of the sexual hijinks.

Elian is Castro's pet now, but he'll live to p**s on his grave soon enough, I'll warrant.

===

It is truly sad, that even some FReepers here don't understand and think, that Elian "belongs" in that hellhole, because his "Father", at the order of Castro, wanted him there, and Clinton/Reno delivered the poor kid to CASTRO on a silver platter, breaking US laws in the process.

It's sickening!

When he was rescued he said his mother and father drowned.

What truth is there in Castro's Cuba or Klinton's Amerika?

You gotta be kidding or sorely misinformed when you say you are "glad he is with his father in Cuba".

Since his return to Cuba Elian has been drugged and used over and over as a pawn for the Castro govt. His father to this day is still under threat not to rock the boat and as you can see in the photo Elian will always be a pawn of the Castro govt. We fail to realize that people are owned by the state in Cuba. This is what happens under communism. You really should talk to some of the thousands who have spent time in Castros' jails or had their relatives killed for their beliefs.

"Janet el Reno and a an entire cast of sordid characters."

Didnt Reno suffer from parkinsons during her days as AG?
Isn't it incredible.....the press tries to go back and say Reagan was suffering from AZ, that's why he made those crazy decisions. No one except for the freepers are questioning HER judgement. Mainstream "Journalists" today really are the most incompetent fools I've ever seen in any profession...and that's not by coincidence.

They sure didn't deny it.

Then they started calling the mother a gusano( worm) and a traitor.

Nice "father," eh? Bashing his sons dead mother. Real classy.
