Kerry Attacks Bush Citing Wilson's Bogus Uranium Claim
NewsMax ^ | August 1, 2004 | Carl Limbacher

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry cited discredited claims by his foreign policy advisor Joseph Wilson on Sunday, reasserting that President Bush misled America by invoking British intelligence that Iraq sought uranium from Africa during his January 2003 State of the Union Address.

"I've said many times that the president misled America," Kerry told Fox News Sunday's Chris Wallace.

"I'm saying the administration made comments that they were warned and knew better in the making. And that's been now documented - about the nuclear materials that came from Africa." In fact, the recently released Senate Intelligence Committee report on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, as well as an intelligence review by Britain's Lord Butler, have confirmed that Iraq had indeed sought uranium from Niger.

"Nigerien officials admitted that the Iraqi delegation had traveled there in 1999 and that the Nigerien prime minister believed the Iraqis were interested in purchasing uranium," the Senate report said.

When asked if President Bush's statements were "lies," Kerry said, "You're fighting to get me to say a word I have not used and I'm not going to use. They mislead America. Whether it was intentional or not is up to American people to decide."

Yeah. In 1999... Nigerien [PM] believed...

More WMD hogwash from the Senate. They should be embarassed at this entire mess.

Time to move on. Wilson is discredited, Kerry has tacitly repudiated his Wilson connection. And we're not putting Saddam back in power no matter who said what to whom when.

But none of that is going to make any WMD magically appear.

Look for a debate on the meaning of the word 'misled'

According to the dictionary, the definitions are as follows:

1) lead in the wrong direction.
2) lead into error of thought or action, especially by intentionally deceiving.

mis·lead ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ms-ld)

tr.v. mis··led, (-ld) mis·lead·ing, mis·leads

1. To lead in the wrong direction.

2. To lead into error of thought or action, especially by intentionally deceiving. See Synonyms at deceive.

By selecting the word Mislead, Kerry is fostering the negative connotation of definition number two, while maintaining the fallback position of the first definintion because they can't really show intent.

Apparently the faux-french dufus has still not read either the briefing material or the Senate report or he is "misleading" the American people. I've already decided.

Uh huh. When folks talk about the coarsening of political discourse, I wish they meant Clitonesque shenanigans like these. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Is that too much to ask of a "war hero?"

Kerry is a liar:

CLEVELAND - Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, the presumed Democratic nominee for president, accused President Bush on Tuesday of having knowingly exaggerated evidence that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, saying the president made “colossal mistakes” before, during and after the war.

Kerry’s charge, the sharpest accusation he has lodged on the president’s conduct of the war, came a day after the Bush campaign, led by Vice President Dick Cheney, unleashed a major assault on Kerry’s military record and his opposition to the Vietnam War.

We know that the president and the White House exaggerated material that they were given purposefully, even though they were told otherwise,” Kerry said in an interview on MSNBC-TV’s “Hardball.”

From dictionary.com:

mis·lead ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ms-ld)
tr.v. mis··led, (-ld) mis·lead·ing, mis·leads

1. To lead in the wrong direction.
2. To lead into error of thought or action, especially by intentionally deceiving.

It is clear that they are using "misled" in the sense of 2, but will momentarily revert to 1 when confronted with the facts or accused of waging a negative campaign. This is typical for the party whose hero tried to dissect the meaning of the word "is."

Maybe people are figuring out that nearly every word out of Kerry's mouth is a lie.

Amazing that in 1997 Kerry told Crossfire host that Clinton would show leadership if he dealt with Iraq regardless of whether the UN Security Council approved or not. He also had harsh words for France and Germany.

How things have changed since 1997.
