The fire started at Leixões, the oil terminal that supplies northern Portugal, after explosions heard at 2:PM, GMT. It has been burning out of control since then. Great danger that the underground pipelines will explode. Not getting coverage by international media.
You have WOT listed as a topic for this post, are they suspecting terrorism?
...and the drones of both parties refuse to take this war seriously and allow oil drilling and refinery construction within the borders of the U.S.
Poor firefighters, I hate it when they get hurt.
Bump - plus we need more refineries here in America.
Now wasn't there an explosion this week at a gas plant in Belgium?
Now an oil refinery in Portugal?
I know they are investigating the cause of the explosion in Belgium, do they know the cause of this explosion?
Gas distributor Fluxys said a leak was reported Friday morning in a natural gas line from the Belgian port of Zeebrugge to France. Half an hour later, after firefighters and police had arrived on the scene, the explosion occurred. Emergency workers were among the victims of the blast.

Here the news about the gas explosion. The fact that the refinery supplying 50% of Portugal is burning just miles away isn't even mentioned ...
Portugal has supported us in the WOT. Belgium has been with the French, IIRC.
Can you back that up? Refineries are located when oil comes in (ports) or where it is produced. Where in the United States are we lacking in refineries. We may need to expand capacity in our existing refineries, but building more, willy nilly across America is going to help anything.

Oil prices are really affected by oil supply and demand. Gasoline prices can be affected by the lack of refining capacity, but you would think, as expensive as gasoline is, we would be using less, not more.
Good point!
You're right - I meant gas prices.
It's fairly shocking that there would fires at oil refineries, what with them being filled with tens of thousands of gallons of explosive and flammable liquids and gases and all.
So did you bother to compare the number of oil refinery fires so far this year to the number of oil refinery fires last year? In 2000? 1998?
Interesting.
I don't know how this compares with years past.
I thought there had been a lot of fires this year in Texas, but people who live there said they happen alot, and this didn't seem like an unusual year.
It's always the same pattern : investigation announced immediately, never hear about it anymore. Check also the article on the fire in the turkish refinery.
