Evel Knievel's Kid To Jump Aircraft Carrier

NEW YORK CITY (Wireless Flash) -- Stunt cyclist Evel Knievel once tried to jump a canyon and now his son is trying to jump an aircraft carrier.

On July 31, "Kaptain" Robbie Knievel plans to jump over six military airplanes on the deck of the aircraft carrier museum U.S.S Intrepid.

In order to complete the 180-foot jump, Knievel says he had to build a 30-foot high ski ramp to help his bike build up enough speed.

He originally planned to jump two aircraft carriers at once but it was logistically impossible.

The stunt will be televised on TNT to promote the July 31 broadcast of "Evel Knievel," TV-movie based on the life of Robbie's father, but he says the real reason he's doing it is "...for the troops."

Evil Kenivel once jumped 18 school buses. I would have been more impressed if he had parked them front to rear instead of side by side.

Don't those carriers have automatic gattling guns that shoot down any foreign objects?

The Snake River Canyon, to be precise. ....in this little rocket contraption. I watched it live (sometime in the late 70's), probably on The Wide World of Sports or something.

The dude didn't even make it to the water's edge.

I hope those planes are nearing the end of their normal service life (you know, just in case).

My hero Johnny Carson milked Even Knievel's famous failed 'Snake River Canyon' jump in his monologue for at least 15 years! Haha!

Johnny: "Henry Kissenger's mouth is so big...."

Audience: "How big is it???"

Johnny: "It is so big, that Evel Knievel decided against trying to jump it in his rocket powered motorcycle. That is BIG!"

I miss Johnny, by the way!

Robbie Knievel was being interviewed during the NASCAR race Saturday. He praised President Bush and said the jump was for him and all the vets living and who died for this country.
His father Evel also praised President Bush on the Jim Rome show a few weeks ago .

I never did quite figure out why the kid calls himself Kaptain. Just a gimmick I suppose, anyway his stunts are hardly the caliber of his Dadsm he jumps with a sissy Jap dirt bike any good Moto-crosser could match his jumps his Dad jumped with a 70 dirt racing Harley specially set up and a lot heavier than anything the kid jumps with. the Snake River Jump was a farce.

Johnny: "Even Knievel's so far right..."

Audience: "How far right is he?"

Johnny: "He is so far right, he voted for Pat Buchannan on purpose. Broward County Style!"

Evel said he would use the same kind of motorcycle Robbie has if he could have. Robbie uses a CR-500 Honda. Evel thought of the Kaptain Name. They are both good people.

I spent 17 years on flight decks. They are unforgiving.

This one is docked on the West side of Manhattan on the Hudson River.

He better not damage the SR-71 if they still have it on deck.

Robby is a lot crazier than his dad was ... Evel jumped a lot of things but in the last 3 years Robby has jumped the Grand Canyon (well ok a little crack of it), A moving train, and between buildings in Las Vegas.
