I don't know why they're calling that genocidal activity though --- what the Mexican government under Echeverria did was massacre unarmed students who were protesting in Tlateloco Plaza downtown --- and the reason the government did that was because the Mexican Olympic games were about to begin and that government didn't want visitors to Mexico to think there wasn't total support for the government there. Some foreign visitors did happen to be there early and were horrified with what happened. And people still talk about what the government did --- but it's weird, they will shut their windows and doors like they think someone is trying to listen --- which I don't think is the case but there is paranoia about their government.

Well said and that's been my point for a long time. Illegals that rob, rape and murder innocent Americans are just as much a terrorist as the 9/11 perpetrators. Ask any family that has been traumatized by an assault on a loved one by some cretin that shouldn't even here if their pain is any less than those of the 9/11 families....doubt anyone would find much of a difference.

Chiapas could be called geneocidal I think --- when the government mows down Indians who are demanding democracy or rights. And the whole getting rid of 25 million campesinos that Salinas discussed with the signing of NAFTA is definitely genocidal or ethnic cleansing. The government actually decided that the substinence farmers had to go -- their way of life had to be destroyed, they had no right to do what they had done for generations --- survive in their own country.

I hate to be inconvenient here, but I find these expenditures to be backwards. If we used $87-billion to protect our borders, language and culture against the massive onslaught of illegal aliens and drugs, we would probably have not have had the "terrorist" problems to begin with. Nor would we have over-burdened budgets for schools, prisons and government subsidized medical care.
