Man looses conceal and carry permit following assault

(KAAL) -- Eric Larson probably knows better than anyone that just because a person is issued a permit to carry a concealed handgun doesn't mean he can use it any way he wants to.

The 47-year-old Albert Lea man made his first appearance Thursday in Mower County District Court.

Larson is charged with second-degree assault for allegedly pointing a loaded handgun at Austin Burger King manager Samuel Johnson.

The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon in Burger King's parking lot following an argument between the two men inside the restaurant.

Judge Fred Wellman set Larson's bail at $3,000 with conditions having to do with Larson's ability to use or possess firearms.

Mower County Attorney Eric Herenden says, "The court suspended the permit to carry today as part of his conditions of release. In addition, the Freeborn County Sheriff's Department stopped by and served him with a revocation of his permit."

Judge Wellman also stipulated that law enforcement officers must confiscate all guns in Larson's home prior to his release.

The video has an interesting exchange that didn't make it into the printed story:

Eric Hereden, Mower County Attorney: "The court suspended the permit to carry today as part of his conditions of release. In addition, the Freeborn County Sheriff's Department stopped by and served him with a revocation of his permit."

Reporter: Is that what's usually done in cases like this, where somebody has a permit and they're charged with a crime involving a weapon?

Hereden: I don't run across too many people that have a permit who have been charged with a crime.

Well, that makes two permits revoked, statewide, so far.

Gotta love that comment at the end.

Not to judge by appearances, but, I'm amazed the defendant, with that mullet, had gotten to that age without something on his record precluding the issuance of a CCW.

Oh, but count on this story to lead the 6pm news in the metro area and be the frontpage above the fold headline on the Strib tomorrow.

There should be a clause in every Sate Law with CCW that reads:

Persons with MULLET haircuts will not be issued a permit - EVER!

Moron probably is a liberal who got the permit with the express purpose of doing what he did to discredit the whole process.

What I want to know is: did he loose his permit or did he lose his permit?

Count on the local media to continue to erroneously call this another grave "Conceal and Carry" permit issue.

It's a permit to carry. Period. They continue to wave the "conceal" word in an effort to terrorize the uninformed public into thinking that there's a loaded auto under every coat.

I left this part out.

He's a moron. I have no problem with them taking his carry permit.

Exactly.

Loose means something is free to roam.

Lose means to have lost something.

Spelling makes all the difference!

My apologies to all the incorrect spellers on FR. But get a dictionary!

Agreed. A typo is one thing, but good grief, this lose/loose thing instantly degrades credibility.

If this guy wanted to be able to point loaded guns at people on a daily basis, he should have just became a cop.

I agree. But I DO have a problem with them taking all guns in his home.

Welcome to the police state. Zeig...Heil!!

A good friend of mine is a "cop".

He loves what he does, he doesn't point guns at people. He was not in favor of MN's carry law, at first. We talked, the facts rolled in, we talked some more and he's okay with how things are.

He still doesn't point guns at people and he is confident that I don't, either.

The moron is this case shouldn't have a permit, let alone be a licensed peace officer.

Somebody in Mower County slept through the class.

The law was written in such a way to get it passed. If convicted of a misdemeanor, he'll get them back.

Felony. Gone.

Works for me.

He's already displayed his stupidity. I don't want him to represent me and cause me to lose my rights.

"But I DO have a problem with them taking all guns in his home."

I don't. This lunatic crossed all the people in that state who carry concealed. The liberal media is going to harp on this one story over and over in hopes of overturning the CCW law.

He thinks it's ok to draw down whenever he's in a verbal argument. I don't want a maniac like that owning a sling-shot, let alone a gun.

Look, I have no problem with this jerk getting what's coming to him. But if he wants a gun, he'll get it. Since when does the Geztapo have the right to tell someone what they can have in their private home?

Jerking the license is one thing [even though a license shouldn't be needed to begin with] but jerking his Second Amendment right to self-protection, jerk or not, is another.
