Another wedding..
This is sort of like a "car-vs-train" article. One lesson I learned from driving a tank on the Autobahn - the tank always has the right-of-way.
I wonder if the air bag in the M-1 Abrams deployed?
So someone trying to pass (presumably by going into the opposite direction lane) and getting into an accident is now somehow an indictment of our military presence in Iraq?
Why is this in the news?
Amazing how many "wedding parties" seem to run into bad luck...
And the lesson of the day, boys and girls, is: "Don't play Chicken with 70 tons of Detroit steel".
"They were in a wedding party on their way from Tarmiyah to Baghdad ... (when) an American armoured vehicle hit them and left," the man said.
An unidentified eyewitness? Why does AP print this nonsense? (as if I didn't know) First a tank crashes into a van... then an amoured vehicle hit them and left? I bet it was a bunch of neoCons at the wheel... that's it, yeah and they were drinking non-union beer and looking for a picket line to cross. Some reports said that they had a Confederate flag on the tank too.
Are you sure we can't call that tank an SUV?
The only reason this is in the news is because it offers "evidence" of evil soldiers killing civilians. If I'm not mistaken, quite a few of our soldiers have been killed in auto accidents in Iraq.
Ive seen plenty of reporters mention that Iraqis drive like maniacs.
""They were in a wedding party on their way from Tarmiyah to Baghdad ... (when) an American armoured vehicle hit them and left," the man said."
What, they should have stayed around, and gotten out of their tanks to see what happened?
Good way to become RPG bait.
"They were in a wedding party on their way from Tarmiyah to Baghdad ... (when) an American armoured vehicle hit them and left," the man said.
There's your punchline, right there.
Henceforward, every Iraqi traffic fatality will be the fault of Boosh, the Joos, and their armored vehicles.
In the article it sounds like the van caused the crash, not the tank. They were passing another vehicle when the VAN crashed into the tank.
A little spin here............big bad tank..........
I propose the following ammendment to Murphy's Law: When speeding down a highway located in a war zone, all 70-ton armored vehicles have the right-of-way.
According to my calculations, that makes a total of 27 accident victims. Were all these people in the minivan, or were some of those injured merely standing on the street nearby? No mention of any explosion, or whether it could have been muffled by the sound of the collision. Perhaps the detonator didn't work. And the presence of a child's dress doesn't necessarily mean there was a little girl present. We haven't heard the other side of this story, and probably never will.
the nyt had an sunday mag article last year on iraqi weddings.
vehy interesting! they marry their cousins, in order to secure the families from outside influences.
The accident happened at night, the tank probably is not equipped with running lights, tail lights, headlights? etc.
Unbelievable spin... the van was passing another vehicle when it ran into a tank proceeding on its own side of the road, and then by the end of the story it's the American tank's fault.
Liberal incoherence, as usual.
