More than 80 percent of single German women are perfectly happy without a man in tow and say living solo gives them more freedom to do what they want, according to a survey for Stern magazine.

Coming amid mounting political alarm about Germany's low birthrate and aging population, the survey of 1,003 women showed only two percent did not enjoy their solitary lifestyle and 36 percent opted to stay single because it was more fun.

Almost half the women said they preferred single life because it was easier to keep their homes tidy and 36 percent said with no man on the scene they didn't have to endure watching sports on television.

Wow...compelling arguement for staying single. Wonder if they'll regret not having an occasional dust-bunny or having to endure a "football" game on TV when they're old and miserable. They probably don't want kids either, because with no kids on the scene, they won't have to endure sticky fingerprints on the refrigerator or watching "Barney" re-runs.

Then you'll just have to import your population from Turkey and the other Muslim countries that reproduce themselves. Somebody has to work and pay for the retirement programs you will need.

Sometimes families aren't very reliable. And sometimes parents are stubborn about letting kids take care of them. Life is funny. But loneliness is a definite by-product of lack of service to others.

Apparently they only surveyed single women... and then they post a misleading headline like "Women Say Single Life Is Better".

I wonder if they polled married women - would they get a headline like "Women Say Married Life Is Better" ??

All the "widowed" women I know and my neighborhood is full of them...were married and many have kids that "ignore" them...so your theory doesn't hold much water...in fact Miss Ruth my next door neighbor complains bitterly about her "sons" who moved away and never help or around for her...and she had two hubbys she out lived...I AM as a single women "her family" and support...

With low birthrates among natives, unmarried German women will be harder and harder to find among their hijab and burkha wearing sisters and their broods.
