What makes anyone think that the P.A. leadership is suddenly going to be serious about peace? Can one "leader" even speak for the Palestinians, with all the factional fighting and the power struggle in Gaza? Isn't this pointless?

Yes, totally pointless. There is no Palestinian government that is capable or willing to enforce a peace deal.

Maybe if they invited Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and some other Arab regimes to the summit, and got them all agree to peace and recognition, then the Palestinians would begin to see the futility of their war.
