John Thune ad against Daschle (no mention of Daschle tho)

I was traveling and saw a John Thune ad on a South Dakota TV station. He is trying to unseat Tom "Deeply Saddened" Daschle. I think this is great. Of course, I presume the hard stuff will come out later....

John Thune came down here to AZ a few months ago (a guest of our good Senator Jon Kyl) and spoke to many of us for his support to un seat and beat Little Tommy Daschle.

He was well received here. Thune had only started his campaign in January of this year, and was very close in the polls. Daschle had begun some campaigning the summer before, but was already struggling in campaign donations as this up and coming "newcomer" has become known.

His race is one to watch. I think he's got a good chance to beat Daschle.

I think the folks in SD were schnookered in 2002, when they chose Tim Johnson over Thune. (Well, that, and some Indian Reservation vote fraud) They thought with a Johnson win, the Senate would remain D, and they would have a Senate Majority leader bringing home the pork.

OOPS! It didn't work out that way. Hopefully they will see the light this time.

Daschle is a losing Senator if Thune makes hay out of this vote by Daschle:

Social Security Lock Box Act Voting Record

Both Daschle and Kerry voted against the Social Security Lock Box Act.

USE IT!!

Ah yes, I remember Thune mentioning that, about the Indian Reservation vote. Wasn't he ahead (or winning?) when "all of the sudden" those votes came in and put Johnson over the top?

Hmmmm....

I dunno. I have a good feeling about Thune. Daschle has been very quiet on the national front. I think "he's deeply concerned." :)

Any idea what the polls are saying about this race? I'd sure like to see Daschle remain in SD especially if he will be saddened.

Yeah, I saw this ad on his website a couple of weeks ago. I e-mailed the Thune campaign and told them the ad was GREAT! His daughters are very talented and smart.

I have no official polls and I don't know that any big name polling firms have done any lately. My sense is here that it is very close--hovering around 52 % support of Daschle. The fact that the top Senate Rat is leaving the convention before Kerry's acceptance speech to come back to SD to campaign is both telling and illustrative of his need to distance himself from the national party.

Yeah, Thune probably rightfully won last time. Unfortunately defeating Daschle will likely prove a harder task even though Daschle's social liberalism is way out of touch with his consitutuents. I've read that in SD personal politics really does make a big difference as Daschle's campaigning prowess of getting out to meet people actually works.

What the hell is the deal with the Dakotas? Both voted for Busy by about 20 points, yet collectively they send 4 liberals to the Senate.

I hope you mean see Daschle remain in SD as a private resident!

Haven't heard anything as of late. He (Thune) might have some info on his website, or the SD Republican party HQ can hopefully give an update.
