To be fair to Mr. FlipFlop, he was trying, as he invariably does...

KERRY HAS PERSONALITY DISORDER THAT WILL ENDANGER AMERICA

I'm here representing my late father, Admiral Zumwalt and my brother, Lt. J.G. Elmo Zumwalt who was a swift boat commander in Vietnam.

If Lt. Kerry failed to heed the commandments of his military superiors 36 years ago, whom will he heed as president? It surely will not be the electorate who voted him into office.

Senator Kerry has demonstrated a dangerous propensity to slip into multiple personalities depending on the audience he is addressing. This was clear of his Vietnam service and his actions upon returning home. It has been clear as a senator in his actions on various issues related to Iraq.

It is a personality disorder that will endanger America in the event that he is elected president.

... to have it both ways.

The point he was making was that clinton didn't deploy troops in the manner that troops are deployed by definition by a fit commander in chief, that if and when (God forbid) he would deploy troops, he would deploy them in the manner of clinton, i.e., the troops would not be put at risk. The statement was a variation of his prior statement on the subject of soldier mortality rate and commander-in-chief success:

"When bill clinton left office, not one young American in uniform was dying in a war anywhere in this world." --John Kerry

Achieving a low soldier mortality rate with a policy of artful battlefield-and-responsibility-avoidance is hardly the measure of commander-in-chief success.

Kerry's premise is, obviously, false, and exposes both Kerry's fundamental misunderstanding of the job of commander-in-chief and the lethal danger to a post-9/11 America that a Commander-in-Chief Kerry would pose.

CNN's favorite general, Wesley Clark, has also been heard to opine that our troops are getting bogged down in Iraq. His competence to judge American generals is questionable since his command was limited to working for NATO. We prefer to hear from American generals. Clark's contribution to international relations consisted of mistakenly bombing the Chinese embassy in Belgrade. In his zeal to prevent troop casualties, he ordered pilots to fly at such high altitudes that the pilots complained that they were being forced to incur unnecessary civilian casualties.

LEHRER: President Bush, your closing statement, sir.

PRESIDENT BUSH: Three weeks from now--two weeks from tomorrow, America goes to the polls and you're going to have to decide who you want to lead this country ...

On foreign affairs, some think it's irrelevant. I believe it's not. We're living in an interconnected world...And if a crisis comes up, ask who has the judgment and the experience and, yes, the character to make the right decision?

And, lastly, the other night on character Governor Clinton said it's not the character of the president but the character of the presidency. I couldn't disagree more. Horace Greeley said the only thing that endures is character. And I think it was Justice Black who talked about great nations, like great men, must keep their word.

And so the question is, who will safeguard this nation, who will safeguard our people and our children? I need your support, I ask for your support. And may God bless the United States of America.

(Applause)
