Don't keep your mouth shut. But, if your political views may affect your pocketbook, be prepared.

If I enjoy her music and dislike her politics, I can choose not to buy a concert ticket or a CD. It is my choice. And in this case, choice is good.

As a freeper said on another thread: (paraphased) Enertainers need to realize they are really no different than trained dogs, we let them on stage to perform tricks and throw them a treat when they are good. Not to lecture us with their psuedo intelectual drivel"

So what do you or anyone else stand to gain for boycotting an artist for their political views?

I'll answer yours if you'll answer mine.

My answer: The satisfaction that comes from knowing that not one thin dime of my money will go to support an individual whose political views are so completely antithetical to my own.

Now, its my turn:

"Why do you criticize those who choose to boycott an artist for their political views? Or for that matter, for any other reason?"

Actually it was a pretty good business decision. When Bush supporters around the country read about the Linda Ronstadt incident, many of them, in order to show their gratitude to Aladdin's management, will make it a point to spend some time (and some money) at the Aladdin the next time they're vacationing in Las Vegas.

Excellent hotel. I stayed there a few months ago, and it is a fantastic hotel. Other guests told me their stay was better than previous stays at the Bellagio (way more expensive at the Bellagio). Anyway, me and my family will be there again in August and will personally thank the Aladdin mgmt for tossing out that liberal trash Ronstadt!

It's a boycott. I don't stand to gain anything. It's the boycottee who is made to LOSE.

"Since when are people in a democracy supposed to keep their mouth shut regarding politics?"

Since she was representing the interest of the establishement that was paying for her performance upon their stage.

Had she been standing on a soapbox in a public park, you might have a valid point. But she wasn't!

The impression I get from the very restrained reports is that it was much more dramatic than reported.

It was not just a statement and a into a song.

It was a good sized chunk of the audience that walked out.

So far no eyewitness confirmaiton.

It is using the freedom to express ourselves as they are free to express themselves..It works both ways...Isn't freedom to choose an artist one wants to hear or see based on their opinions of our opinions wonderful!

..An artist must realize with freedom there are responsibilities and there are reactions that have consequences...

Some people want to have the freedom to speak without understanding others have a right to express their disapproval.. The people in the business are free to choose who they want to book....Freedom!

Free speech is a two-edged sword, my friend. Yes. You have the right to stand up and say whatever you want. Just remember that when you do, someone else will exercise their right to free speech by standing up and calling you an idiot.

Those folks in Vegas paid to see a concert. Not a political rally.

Before her concert, Ronstadt had laughingly told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that she hoped that the casino performance would be her last. "I keep hoping that if I'm annoying enough to them, they won't hire me back," she was quoted as telling the newspaper.

Shameless publicity ploy from an ex-star? Maybe she'll be invited to Kerry's consolation party... hehehe

Well, let's see here. The question is: ''What do I stand to gain, correct?''

Now, I know this is far too subtle for anyone stupid enough not to know the answer to the question, but what is gained, for normal folk -- Americans, if you like -- is the clear and inarguable identification of an enemy/the enemies of the nation, and more particularly, an/the enemy of the Constitution.

Will you excuse Ginsberg, doubtless an ''artist'' in your odd view, for advocating child rape, and the forcible conversion of young boys into homosexuals?

Will you excuse the ''artist'' Paul Robeson's deliberate, multiple treasonous acts on the grounds of his wonderful voice?

Will you excuse the ''artist'' Jane Fonda's treason on the grounds of whatever marginal talent, and/or her father's influence, she may have had at her fingertips?

How about the ''artist'' Sheila Kuehl, once a TV star, now busily shaking down the taxpayers of Calbania, as she impersonates a legislator?

Doubtless, you approve of all of this, from your commentary. ''Artists'' are somehow imbued with special insight and wisdom, in your bizarre little orange-sky world.

I'd wager hard cash that you would do (that's ''would approve'' of this bilge lot). And I'd double-up on the wager with any folks who believe that they don't have a dog in this fight. Now, since we've either established that you support traitors, or you haven't either the brains or the guts to oppose them, then here's the next question:

Will you dismiss out of hand the treason of John al-Querry, the ONLY American ever to be formally welcomed and praised as an ''invaluable asset and friend of the People'' in Hanoi, by the government of (formerly North, now just) Vietnam?

Please pardon my efforts, but, just in your honour, I'm putting 3 fingers down my throat
