CHENEY PLANS INLAND VISIT TO AID JONES CAMPAIGN

The vice president will be in Riverside on July 27 for the Senate candidate.

By Michelle DeArmond

Vice President Dick Cheney will be in Riverside on July 27 to campaign for U.S. Senate candidate Bill Jones, a Republican backer said Monday.

Cheney plans to attend a fund-raiser from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mission Inn, where organizers hope he'll collect at least $200,000 for Jones, said Ted Weggeland, speaking for Mission Inn owner and Republican donor Duane Roberts.

"Clearly they view this as a possible seat to pick up or they wouldn't have the vice president spend his time on the campaign," Weggeland said. "It's vitally important that the Republican Party maintain control of the U.S. Senate." Click for full article.

I was waiting for official confirmation of this event before posting a thread about this...
...so that the "bad guys" would not get any advance notice from ME.
But since I found this article posted on http://www.boxer2004.org/...
....it appears that the RATS already know about it. :o)

I like Cheney, he has good sense. I would trust him to make a better President than the other Republicans.

Sorry! I should have said, "Cheney would make a better President than other Republicans (except Bush!). I was thinking of the future...

Note that the street name is Mission Inn Avenue, NOT Mission Avenue (as I posted incorrectly above.)

The correct address SHOULD be:

3649 Mission Inn Avenue
Riverside, CA 92501

From Yahoo! MAPS:

star 3649 Mission Inn Ave Riverside, CA 92501-3308
When using any driving directions or map, it's a good idea to do a reality check and make sure the road still exists, watch out for construction, and follow all traffic safety precautions. This is only to be used as an aid in planning.

A candidate comes to town
* John Edwards spoke to local Democratic faithful at a fundraiser held at the Balboa Bay Club on Saturday.
Several local Republicans protested outside.

Deirdre Newman, Daily Pilot

NEWPORT BEACH — Eclipsing the usually Republican light that shines from Orange County in almost every election, vice-presidential candidate John Edwards snatched up some of his own Newport Beach sunshine to the tune of a $1,000-a-plate luncheon. But local Republicans did their best to cast a dark cloud over the event...

...
The protest across the street from the club included Republicans from conservative venues like Free Republic, a conservative, Internet news forum, and others who came on their own, waving signs that said things such as, "Dick Cheney can be president."

GOP's Jones pledges $2 million to oust Boxer

SACRAMENTO BEE

Facing pressure to show he can raise the funds he needs to mount a serious challenge to U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, Republican candidate Bill Jones said he would spend at least $2 million of his own money on his campaign.

Jones' comments came before the federal deadline for both campaigns to disclose how much they have raised in the past three months, a critical juncture that could influence whether political donors believe Jones' campaign is viable enough to move forward.

At the end of a campaign financial reporting period in March, Boxer had about $6 million in the bank, while Jones' campaign was nearly broke...

-- snip --

Jones said he had also raised about $2 million in the last quarter. Some of that came from his own bank account, but the bulk of the money came from thousands of individual donors, he said.

Jones, who spoke to the Sacramento Press Club on a day when most media attention was focused on the state budget, has found it difficult to generate enthusiasm for his campaign against the two-term Democrat.

A May Field Poll found that two in three likely voters had no impression of Jones and that Boxer was leading by 23 percentage points.

-- snip --

Jones has had some success drawing campaign support from big-name Republicans. Vice President Dick Cheney is scheduled to appear at a fund-raiser for Jones in Riverside at the end of July, and U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., will stump for him next week...

How does he stack up against Dick Cheney?

Jones has been the nominee since March. He should have had a fundraiser a week with the likes of Schwarzenegger, Cheney, Guliani and McCain. In addition to the cozy fundraisers in the homes of millionaires. I have long stated that this race would need about $50 million to be competitive.
Don't give up. If the election is called early in the evening, it will depress dem turnout.

I think along those lines. My first fear and impression was that Jones just did not have the fire and spunk to oust Boxer, who so badly needs to be ousted. Kaloogian did.

I don't know how much money it would have taken for Jones to start getting in her face, and thus in our faces... but he sure hasn't done it. Boxer keeps disgracing herself and twitting those she supposedly represents, and Jones' response is INVISIBLE.

It's nice he's putting his own money in. What he needs to put in is HIMSELF, some heart and soul and fire. Give people something to donate to and work for, other than He's-not-Boxer.

As legislator, Jones authored the largest tax increase in CA history. It's *amazing* he's the GOP nominee but the White House "forgave" him for being a turncoat in the 2000 primary where he withdrew his endorsement of Bush and endorsed McCain just before the CA primary. The self-destructive Right-Wing establishment refused to support or recruit more viable candidates.

Jone'll lose against the Marxist Boxer. I can't support him knowing his record. He can't even raise a dime on his own. He's been elected statewide and the bottom line is he isn't wanted.

I understand Cheney coming out here, and I wouldn't vote for Bush with him not on the ticket, but we're a bitter bunch after Homeland Security's Asa Hutchinson stopped the criminal alien sweeps in the LA area. And we're not getting our fair chuck of tax dollars to deal with immigration and other issues forced on us by the Feds.

This FReep started out for ME with a call on my cell phone from Andrea (with the Riverside College Republicans) at about 4 pm.
I was stuck in traffic on the 91 freeway, as it turns out, still about an hour away.
She said that there were already over FIFTY Bush-Cheney supporters in place, but that the TEN or so "bad guys" were attempting to disrupt their rally, and she wanted to know what to do.
This was her first FReep as an ORGANIZER, and she was concerned.
