The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic invites all FReepers and lurkers in good standing to join us this Saturday afternoon outside Kerry headquarters in D.C. as we call for the release of the videotape of the Kerry campaign's "Heart and Soul of America" Radio City Music Hall fundraiser.
Free cans of Slim-Fast will be given way to passersby (not Kerry workers) as our way of saying thanks to Slim-Fast for firing Whoopi Goldberg as their spokesman after her disgraceful performance at the fundraiser.
When: Saturday, July 17, 2004 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: The sidewalk in front of 901 15th Street, NW, Washington, D.C.
Bring: Signs bearing messages calling for the release of the videotape and comments on the tenor of the fundraiser.
We have obtained a permit for this demonstration from the D.C. police.
As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for protesting will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no profanity, no racism, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.
TOPICS: Activism/Chapters; News/Current Events; US: District of Columbia; US: Maryland; US: North Carolina; US: Virginia
KEYWORDS: dcchapter; ncchapter; oldnorthstatechapter; slimfast; unilever

""But it saddens me that people who were not present at the fund-raiser, including anyone from Slim-Fast and others who have not seen the material for themselves but are only reacting to soundbites produced by the media, have opted to judge my 'conduct,' " Goldberg's statement said. Yes, it saddens us too that the Democrats are covering up your whole act, by not releasing the whole film from the fundraiser.
To: kristinn
Can not join you at the protest, as I am in Georgia, but I will pick up a can of "slim fast" to toast to Freepers Success on Saturday, July 17, 2004 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
To: kristinn
Will drink my last can of SLim Fast as a toast to the DC chapter....

I'm not going to make it on Saturday -- I'm sorry that I won't be able to renew my acquaintance with TaxRelief, Huber and their children. We had a great time in Fayetteville earlier this year.

I'm not quite up to speed on what happened at the fundraiser. What did Whoopi and the others say, precisely?
To: kristinn
Looks like I will be able to make it. Great opportunity to introduce people to the true face of the party of "peace and love." It is pretty hard to distance oneself from the kinds of remarks made at the event when the leadeer of the party refers to them as "the heart and soul of the Democrat party." The American people need to see the comments made by Whoopi and Co. followed by Kerry's endorsement of those comments over and over.
Looking forward to it.

How about giving away the competing product instead? Give the other brand some publicity.
To: firebrand
How about giving away the competing product instead? Give the other brand some publicity. Because Slim Fast fired Whoopi Goldberg in response to complaints about her "act". To FReepers going -- let me suggest pointing out, when distributing the cans, the Slim Fast disavows such behavior, but Kerry/Edwards apparently do not.

Good morning, my friend,
One of my major reasons for regretting my move from Washington to the mountains of North Carolina is being 11 hours away from the folks and events of the D.C. Chapter of FreeRepublic. There are a lot of positives -- better weather, no more drinking and smoking all night in assorted bars, etc. But the lack of FR is pressing.
Nail 'em good. And, I'll have a deservedly kind word for Slim-Fast in my next column.

Getting married. What is going on with the stalwarts of the DC Chapter? Another demonstration of optimism?
2004 the year of the wedding. Who'd a thunk it?
Will you all be appearing on the newly wed game? Guess will have to party like it's 1999. --- CONGRATULATIONS!
