Why bother?

I agree. We need to drop out of these things. We can do what needs to be done without these international Bash the US fests. The money saved can go towards fighting AIDS in Africa.

Of course, if I had my way, we'd drop out of the UN and then watch the world suddenly become aware of just how much of the tab we've been picking up. We could probably get more bang for our bucks by working directly with the countries in need and eliminate all the parasites in the UN who suck off half the money to support their lifestyle.

My take on this:

We should show up at one of these, declare that we have done more than our share already, without any credit. We will fight AIDS in our country, and cut aid to others until the rest of the world matches our already spent funding and stops the rhetorical attacks on us.

The point is that the more they villianize us, the more we pay. We are buying our villianization. The day we STOP paying when they villianize us, it at least MIGHT stop.

Who on earth is Rupert Everett and where did he get his medical degree from?

No matter what they United States does, we're going to be villified. It's either too little, too much, too soon or too late.

Hardly ever a word of thanks.

. . . along with celebs like Ashley Judd, Richard Gere, Oprah Winfrey and Rupert Everett - at the 15th international conference to fight AIDS.

If it weren't for a deadly, incurable disease, these people would have nothing to do.

How sick is that?

It's the old NGO disease. When the organization consists more of "activists" than of anyone with a direct relation to the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, we end up with no accountability, politics over medicine, and no progress. Were a complete cure to materialize tomorrow these people would be furious at being out of a job.

Sale made here.

These international conferences are always dominated by radical leftists whose first priority is to hate America, and only second might consider the topic of the conference. They need us far more than we need them.
