Knowing that any argument smacks of the proverbial "singing lessons for pigs", I smiled, nodded and changed the subject without mentioning that this happened right around the time (slightly before actually) that Kmart went Chapter 7. (or was it 11?) Co-incidence?

Excellent! I have thought of trying it but.... Way to go!
I just called, and once through their auto menu, I spoke with a very lovely young lady who was totally sympathetic to my call. She had said they have received numerous, numerous calls on Friday, over the weekend, and yesterday, and that they were documenting all of them. She said they were doing everything they can to resolve this issue. She said "her" remarks were uncalled for and unfortunate.
Take a few minutes to make the call, even if you've emailed (which I had done) ... they're listening.
Hey sandlady--
I called this Slim Fast toll free # 1-800-SLIM-FAST just this morning. (Don't be deterred by the error-type message that comes on first--just stay on the line and a service rep will answer.)
I spoke with a VERY receptive woman named Beverly. She assured me the company is interested in the publics' thoughts about the vulgar Whoopi 'act'.
She did not have a toll-free # for Unilever but said that she was taking notes while we talked (I could hear her scribbling!) and that this information would be passed along to the right people.
I told her that it would be wise to be pro-active on this--before either a video tape or transcript of this "performance" comes out. She agreed (I was prepared for a bit of verbal battling--it didn't happen--she was very sympathetic! Maybe after the Danny Glover, Dixie Chicks, etc. big business is learning...)
I gave her my name and my husband's to add to the impression of real people with real views. She said that they had had a number of comments already (no specifics tho'.)
I encourage all who want an easy, personal way to protest Whoopi (and by extension, Kerry-Edwards!) to give them a call.

Thanks for starting this thread ... I, too, am hopeful. See my Post #43 ...
Dear Slimfast:
I may be fat but that doesn't mean I'm stupid.
Yep. Hopefully, the next quarter will see Slimfast with profits that are SLIM to none.
Excellent information, Red.
All the more reason to bombard them with our opinions and determination to boycott their products.
Let them deal with their decisions on the bottom line--IN THEIR POCKET BOOK--tell me they don't understand that!
Thanks for sharing this. I sent them a longish email and hope to hear from them.
My letter:
I am writing concerning the public comments your spokeswoman, Whoopi Goldberg, made during a John Kerry fundraiser in New York last Thursday. As I'm sure you are well aware, her comments about the president of the US were both profane and vulgar. They went beyond reasonable criticism to an unacceptable display of hatred and disrespect, during a time of war with our troops on the battlefront.
I have been dieting now for almost two years, trying various techniques. Please understand that I will not use any product that uses such a vulgarian as is Ms. Goldberg as it frontman.
Mr. Kerry's organization belatedly disavowed Ms. Goldberg's comments. But that was only after he smiled and laughed at the comments and later lauded all the performers as representing the "soul of America". It is clear to me that Mr. Kerry's turnabout is cynical politics at its worst.
I don't know if you are going to disavow your spokeswoman, but if you do I hope the disavowal will be genuine. Personally, I can't help but wonder how someone of the caliber of Ms. Goldberg ever was chosen to represent SlimFast to the American public. But that, of course, is and remains your choice.
I thought it was Clinton that used Monica... I could be wrong tho...
So the Jenny Craig folks got rid of Monica.
**
Seriously, I am quite sure that they got rid of Monica because of the complaints. I was one of the ones who called, and I plan to call Slimfast as well.
"Excellent! I have thought of trying it but.... Way to go!"
Thanks, my wife is getting the same results, btw.
(Big GRIN!)
We are both 46.
They knew who they hired and I would be totally surprised if they did anything about it seeing that Goldberg is one of their own.
You know, I understand that America is made up of Democrats and Republicans and I don't speak out about every celebrity who supports President Bush's opponents, but she went way over the line and IMO is an embarrassment to our country. Additionally, Abraham has to have the dollars coming in to donate to the demos and if she hinders that, he's not going to let her hang around--it's business.
I won't buy Cortislim until they stop making such condescending commercials. "I'm Doctor Greg Cynaumon, and I'm here to tell you that Cortislim is really scientific, and stuff."
My Sunday paper had some slimfast coupons in it; I'm cutting them out and mailing them back to slimfast with a note on why I won't be needing them.
We have the MOST clever posters at FreeRepublic! LOL

I don't know what to tell you in response. All I know is it works....but like you, if an advertisement gets on my nerves I don't buy the product.
To each his own.
they did? that's great... but what's Danny Glover going to do now? how will he eke out a living?
