Running on Fox News now, U.S. agents are armed for pre-Olympic training, but will not be allowed to protect U.S. Olympians during the actual games.
This is sounding more and more like the Munich Olympics, when the German government told Golda Meir, 'we don't need no stinkin' Israeli help, we can handle the situation.'
Pull out.
Then forget it .. pull out
That might very well happen. I would expect the "Dream Team" to act first if their professional organizations balk at the risk.
I wouldn't go there.
Athens airport security has always been renowned for its laxness. Don't think the security at the Games will be any better.
This reminds me of the movie ALIENS where the military dudes are asked to remove their bullet cases out of their guns by their captain in the middle of the alien's den! LOCK AND LOAD, BABY!! ;)
I assume al-Jazeera will inform the terrorists of this invitation.
Sure, make sense. We don't want al qaeda agents carrying weapons.. Mmm mm.
don't care how much money i have, I wouldn't go to greece this summer to see anything except the return of the CHRIST.
Exactly what the terrorists want, but what other realistic option is there?
Will the Olympic shooting team be allowed to carry weapons? < / sarcasm>
There was an article last week that said, IIRC, Israel and US would provide their own guarding of their athletes.
Apparently, this didn't sit well with the Greeks. It probably won't sit well with the athletes themselves. Some have stated apprehensions about overall security even before this announcement.
Beware Greeks banning guns.
They've aleady seen it, monitoring us on FR.
But the issue of whether to permit armed security agents with the Olympic teams remains highly sensitive.
Greek officials feel such a plan would undermine their authority and could lead to incidents from foreign guards unfamiliar with the local environment, such as frequent street demonstrations, small firebombs from anarchist groups or motor scooter drivers going on sidewalks to avoid traffic.
How quaint.
I say 'no guns, no games.' NO GUNS, NO GAMES!
As much as I hate to say this -- we need to state very clearly -- We will protect our athletes or we will not compete.
In appreciation, Mulim kerrorists have just detonated three festive car bombs. The South European Martyrs-To-Be Brigade has just scheduled a celebratory toga party for Saturday night. There probably won't be a press release, but the talks in the European mosques is one of delight in making it so much easier. The dark side, of course, is the there has been a dramatic surge in underage Martyrs-To-Be betting, as they place large bets on the much higher numbers in the Olympic body count pool. I understand that a European Community Commission has started an investigation to examine this underage gambling issue with a summary report scheduled to be issued in August, 2016.
Which means they won't be able to protect themselves either. I think it's time to tell Greece to stick it where the sun don't shine.
