DALLAS -- Seven police officers filed a civil rights lawsuit against the city Tuesday, alleging they were denied promotions or transfers because they are white or do not speak Spanish.

The officers say they were occasionally passed over in favor of minority candidates who had less experience, were on probation or had not applied for an open position.

The best part is the following Aziz quote;

---"It's been common for white males on the department to allege racism or discriminatory practices given that they don't believe that any other black or Hispanic could be just as qualified or more qualified than them for a job," he said. ----

That's priceless. A white person, can't possible have a legitimate claim; he can't possibly be right that some aff action/preferences scheme results in lesser qualified candidates being chosen over more deserving ones.

No, instead they are revealing their own inherent racism because in fact they just don't think blacks or Hispanics could possibly be as good as them. Yeah, that must be it.

What and ***hole. This Aziz guy should be teaching at a university instead of running some Peace Officer's Association. And what kind of Association of Officers would let some clown like this be their leader. The 'Texas Peace Officers Association'; that doesn't souind like an ethnic-specific group, so if its not I wonder how the white guys in that group feel about a blanket statement about what is no doubt a legitimate complaint at times.

This happened to a friend of mine, but he was a Detroit police officer. He was an officer for over 20 years, but they wouldn't promote him, so he retired.

"As the face of the department continues to change, minority officers will continue to be attacked in some sort or fashion," said Senior Cpl. George Aranda, Latino Peace Officers Association president.

He must be talking about white officers, because early next year the state demographer avers that 'anglos' will be a minority in Texas.

Gosh, and what might happen if the white policemen were to form an "Anglo Peace Officers Association", to defend their minority rights? How long before the DOJ, the SPLC, the ACLU, the Democratic party et al came down on an organization with a name like that for being "racist"? But somehow, Cpl. Aranda can have his very own exclusionary, ethnic based organization.

Fascinating.

Yep! Does not surprise me.

It happened very recently with Mobile, Alabama's Fire Department. A big lawsuit - promoting a black who was not as qualified as a white. The white won his case but did the lesser qualified black get the boot or demoted? Nope! The white got promoted and the black kept his job.

We see it very often in the public school system. It would be my opinion that this is very common thru out America - promoting/hiring based on color of skin rather than merit or qualification.

Though it may sound radical to most people now, the idea that whites will someday act like other racial/ethnic groups is not really far-fetched. I mean, why wouldn't whites act like every other minority once they have become a minority? You can't reduce a majority white population to minority status and expect them to continue indulging in their white guilt.

I mean if current trends continue (and the 'if' is important because current demographic changes are often presented as though they were some irresistable force of nature instead of what they actually are; a result of govt immigration policy) then one day it is conceivable that half or more of the population will be eligible for racial preferences of some kind. That's insane.

For proper background in interpreting the different sides of this story...

The fired ex-police chief/circus clown was black.

The new police chief is white.

Latinos cops are angry that a latino has never been police chief.

Black cops are angry that Terrell Bolton "wasn't given the proper opportunity" to do a good job.

Meanwhile, the city has been left with a larger per capita crime rate than New York City.

I agree with you. When whites are the minority then they should be classified as such and preferential treatment and Gov't gimmies better apply. I am tired of getting the feeling people want me to apologize for being born white.

Perhaps not inevitable, but certainly seems on course to do that. And remember that the preferences will not be to redress 'past wrongs', but rather as a 'compelling state interest in the benefits of diversity' as Ms. Injustice O'Connor put it when she invented such out of whole cloth.

That's insane

Yup. And un-Constitutional. To put it mildly.

Thanks for the info.

But what really bothered me was this Aziz's assertion that the motivation for the white plaintiffs is that they feel no non-white could possibly be their equal. That's outrageous and absurd.

If one has concrete proof, a discrimination lawsuit is easy to win.
