Just like any dad, President Bush may sometimes feel exasperated by his children. Vanity Fair's Christopher Hitchens reports in his August column that "a prominent senator" told him that, while visiting the President recently, the senator complimented Bush on his desk photo of First Daughters Barbara and Jenna. "You have children?" Bush asked. "Oh yes, Mr. President." "You like them?" "Of course, Mr. President." "Mine are a pain in the a--," a straight-faced Bush allegedly responded. Though the girls haven't lately embarassed dad with any boozy behavior (at least none we've heard about), Hitchens suggests the sober Bush "resents them because they can cut loose and he can't." "That Bush did not surrender to the need for a colossal bourbon on Sept. 11 stands, I think to his credit," writes Hitchens, himself a Johnny Walker enthusiast. P.S. Hitchens reports that Bill Clinton was telling the truth when he said he never inhaled during his time at Oxford. Having been at the university then, Hitchens says Clinton "had no aversion to the brownies and cookies that were then a favorite method of marijuana main-line ingestion."Bush's twin terrors
Another anonymous source who just happened to tell someone else. This sounds like complete and utter tripe.
I have 3 kids - 22, 19 & 6. All 3 match Bush's description. I love all three - but how the oldest two reached adulthood without my killing them, I'll never know. And the youngest is the most pig-headed of the bunch! Don't know where she gets it...her Mom?
Sheer, unadulterated, second-hand speculation.
Everybody who has kids knows they are a pain in the azz. Next day they fullfill all your dreams about them. Do reporters just make this stuff up ? I think maybe they do. If they havent got a story in time for their deadline they bring out story with the same old anonymous insider, who they cant mention.
Or, they are a pain in the ass.
Even folks with an (R) after their names have children they want to chain in the closet until maturity kicks in.
Ah...more deep thoughts from a journalist. How do these people keep a job?
I don't buy it. GWB would especially know if a "prominent" Senator had children. Business 101.
This is not newsworthy. At one time or another my three sons were a pain in the a$$. Not any more. I was a pain in the a$$ to my parents. BTW, the Earth is round.
"a prominent senator" told him
Why don't we see articles about Kerry's "Out of control" kids...
Because someone might post pictures? Eeeewwwwww!!!!
I find this story very hard to believe.
But his body-slam of Moore's F-911 was right on, in spite of the Johnny Walker.
Sounds like Leftist Liberal Democrat Propaganda!
We probably will, once they start getting arrested for drunken behavior in public. Until then, a little cheesecake on the sly by a clever cameraman does not add up to "child out of control".
Bush kids behavior is a human interest story that large numbers of voters will identify with. I don't think it hurts the campaign at all. As for Bush's purported comments, sounds like the usual "what you see is what you get" story. This may drive his despisers up the wall, but that's just too bad for them.
I mean ... I mean ... the wife and I brought to bare five of the most adoring, well behaved, thoughtfull, little curmudgeons, ever to visit planet earth.
I am shocked I tell you! Shocked!
I don't know anyone with a brain and kids over 13 and under 25 who does not think and feel the same way.
While that may be the case, my point is that this doesn't qualify as journalism.
