Elvis rocks the world 50 years on

ROCK 'n' Roll turned 50 this morning when an Elvis Presley recording of That's All Right Mama played simultaneously on at least 1200 radio stations worldwide, organisers said.

Stations from the UK to Ukraine and Canada to Mexico carried the song as it was fed from Sun Studios, in Memphis, Tennessee.

That is where Presley, a 19-year-old truck driver and two other musicians, recorded what many historians call the first rock 'n' roll song.

"It was clearly the Big Bang of Rock 'n' Roll," said Kevin Kane, of the Memphis Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

Sun Studios is now a national landmark. There is even an "X" on the studio floor, where Presley stood.

The guitarist in the historic session, Scotty Moore, was on hand at Sun today to press the play button that sent the feed to between 1200 and 1500 stations, in what organisers called a "Global Moment in Time".

Memphis musician Justin Timberlake was also present. Television crews had arrived from Venezuela, India, Japan and Quebec to cover the event, Mr Kane said.

"Memphis musician Justin Timberlake..."

What does he play? If he just sings, he is a singer. A musician plays a musical instrument.

There are far more talented musicians in Memphis than Mr. Timberlake. Enjoy your fame while it lasts. You are slated to be the next M.C. Hammer.

Scotty Moore was in town to do more than just "push a button"

I don't know why JLL isn't on this show, he has played some Sun Family Reunions in the past with these same performers.
