Polygamy is about older men hiding behind religion to obtain very young, vulnerable women.
Or, in some circles, it's about welfare scams.....

I don't know how the EUrosocialist countries (including Canada) are going to keep polygamy out. I'm not so sure we can keep it out for good in the US. Utah is kind of a special case, because their state constitution explicitly forbids it, and their state laws forbid not only multiple marriage but even multiple cohabitation. However, AZ has a lot of polygamists, supposedly, because AZ law is more lenient.
Sooner or later the Utah/AZ polygamists are going to hook up with the Muslims & file the mother of all lawsuits, and then voila.

Unfortunately, SSM is the top of a very slippery slope. Shut it down, Close the box. Put it back in the closet.

I think it can be that but it has historically been more than that.
I think it is problematic if widespread because men with wealth end up with a lion's share of the best available mates and hence a lot of frustrated young men starting out without much means. (actually, I ink's it's counter to nuclear families period)
I guess polygamy started out as a way to increase familial survival and growth? (I'm not sure)...maybe some students of cultural anthropology could answer that.
I have seen an informal illegitimate polygamy quite common throughout black culture from West Africa to the Caribbean Basin and the Southern USA and it seems to be in those cases more about opportunity and matriarchal gathering to raise broods of illegitimate children by men who may support them nicely as in West Africa or not support them at all in the Caribbean or the South. How and where all that started I don't know but I suspect it may be residual from hunter gatherer tribal life.
Polygamy is a very old tradition and while it may sound fun to horndogs...I'm betting it's quite a challenge.
I believe polyandry is quite common in Tibet and Nepal to keep land in the family.....polyandry is somewhat less palatable than polygamy...lol

Won't the women's groups want equal polygamy?
Meaning the right to marry more than one husband?
Now there's a thought.

Polyandry?
maybe for pansexuals...lol
seriously...historically there have been primary reasons for polygamy and polyandry but I think the reasons were more practical than pleasurable...I could be wrong.
plus historical perspectives and sensitivities are quite different from ours....culture has evolved into monogamy mostly via judeo-christendom in the west...and i think it works best...just my view

A
WorldNetDaily article on the same subject states:
The appeal cites a U.S. Supreme Court ruling last year that struck down the sodomy convictions of two Houston men. A majority of the justices said a Texas anti-sodomy law violated the privacy rights of consenting adults.
Apparently the U.S. Supreme Court didn't fully consider the ramifications of their ruling. Or maybe they did...

Santorum was correct.
If the Constitution says that 2 gays are ok and not to be controlled in their adult activities, then it can hardly prohibit 2 gays and their female friend and her straight, WASP judge boyfriend, can it?
