Minneapolis-AP -- He was identified years ago as a terror suspect -- but he was still able to get a licence to haul hazardous materials in Minnesota.
Minnesota officials say they didn't know that the man (Mohamad Kamal Elzahabi) was suspected of having al-Qaida links when he applied in early 2002 for a commercial license to drive a school bus and haul hazardous materials.
Sources tell the Star Tribune of Minneapolis that the F-B-I identified him as a suspected terrorist before Nine-Eleven.
He was charged recently with lying to federal authorities about helping to ship portable field radios to Pakistan -- and lying about his connections to a man who was later convicted as a terrorist in Jordan.
A Minnesota public safety official says before the man got the license, the F-B-I had run his name through a database and apparently cleared him. No comment from the F-B-I.
Amazing that his name appears to be Muslim.
I would hope that the FBI is checking out all of those licensed to haul hazardous materials. As I remember, shortly after September 11, several men were picked up in Michigan for suspected terrorist ties. They were licensed to haul hazardous materials.
Maybe under the circumstances all the states should set political correctness aside and do a full background check on all muslims who seek driver's licenses, hazmat or otherwise. I'm sure some interesting things would turn up.
No, I didn't think so.
I've seen that there are concerns about planes and trains and trucks but this is the first time I'm aware that they are also getting licensed for school buses. That's very concerning because not only could our kids be in danger but school buses caryying little ones are considered "special" and might be able to get to places closer than a truck due to field trips etc.
He got his school bus privileges revoked in February, amazingly enough (can't find details on that). Also in February we nailed some dirty Somali activity. Looks like there was a bit of a roundup here in the beginning of the year, but our stoopid officials still went to Somalia so they could bring another 10,000 or whatever refugees for MN dispersal.
I've been concerned since the training they were doing that involved taking children to the roofs. Remember? We (on FR) were talking here about hotels, cruiser liners etc.
Revoke his license -- NOW!
They would not demand that the election turn out in their favor.
They would follow the Jimmy Carter example.
Grab the hostages a couple months before the election and hold them demanding something they are sure that Bush would never agree to.
Bush denies their demands, looks callous to the liberal voters, Enough swing voters feel the same and the election swings in Kerrys favor.
Of course this assumes that Bush is not able to bring the matter to a close by force.
Excellent point...I was thinking exactly the same thing.
Revoke his license -- NOW!
Send him the H#ll out of the country and keep him and his buddies out. Revoking his license won't do a thing to make us safer.
