The Judge Elihu Smails Award

Awarded to the biggest buffoon of the week

As another new feature on Crushkerry.com we have decided to issue the Judge Elihu Smails Award every week.

Who? Judge Elihu Smails, the character in the film Caddyshack who asks of the obnoxious but lovable Al Czervick (played by Rodney Dangerfield), "good Lord, what has this buffoon done now?"

As a special tribute to Judge Smails, every week we will issue this award to the biggest buffoon of the week . the person who, through his or her actions or public statements, has made a buffoon of themselves and everyone associated with them. We also ask Kerry Crushers to send in your nominations (no limits, so keep them coming). All we ask is that you tell us why you're nominating the person, and include a link to any relevant stories.

This week's Judge Smails Award goes to Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy, John Kerry's more conservative fellow Senator.

Though he denies wanting to impeach the President of the United States for the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, Kennedy attended a meeting to organize such an impeachment.

Congratulations to the chubby, alcoholic Senator who, in an unrelated story, was involved in a murderous scandal himself a while back.

Dan Rather, for taking a verbal slap down by the new Iraqi PM!

Or Mr. Oblisquikikiki for comparing The Iraqi turnover to the Vietnam bug out of '75 and getting rebuked IMMEDIATELY by everybody!!

Jacque Chirac for taking a lesson in civility by Dubya over Turkey.

Hitlery for outing herself again with her big mouth explaining how she will "take" tax money from us that we don't really need, but she does.

(This is soooo easy)

Well, many of those can be held in reserve in case (unlikely though it may seem) you're short a buffoon some week. Also, in the spirit of "fairness", a tie could be appropriate...

This line could fit for Ted Kennedy as well as Carl Spackler:

"We got a pool, and a pond. A pond would be good for you"

Okay ... before we get carried away ... we all need to admit that every line in the film is quotable and hilarious. But I am bitter that Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, and Bill Murray get all the credit. Ted Knight makes the movie.

"Gambling is illegal at Bushwood, sir ... and I never slice."

"DAMN!"

Aside from being a little dated, it's still one of the funniest movies of all time.
