MEDIA SUING TO OPEN KERRY'S SEALED DIVORCE PAPERS

Posted on 06/29/2004 8:31:10 AM PDT by KMC1

NEW YORK - Tomorrow night Dan Proft, President of Leader Media, and former advisor to former Senate Candidate Jack Ryan will appear on O'Reilly factor to discuss the push from the media to delve into sealed divorce records. Proft is among those now suing for access to John Kerry's sealed records. ABC News and Fox are both pursuing the developing story - that appears now to be destined to open the private files of the Democratic candidate for President.

Ouch. Payback is a b!tch.

Although, I think they should have let the media do it without prodding from any political figures.

Personally, I don't like this. But I heard Napolitano saying on Fox that opening Ryan's records was the right decision, and he is quite conservative.

He said that anytime you file anything in court, you should expect it to be part of the public record, even sealed divorce cases. I find this strange, but I don't agree with lots of things judges decide.

Sealed records...I guess not. Kerry is an ass, but I don't think it takes unsealing private divorce records to see that.

The day you go the state for formal recognition of your marriage (and/or formal recognition of the end of your marriage) is the day you lose any claim on protection of your privacy.

Think about it: The one good thing about Massachusetts' recognition of "gay marriage" is that we may one day have the pleasure of suing to have Barney Franks' divorce records unsealed.

Remember this is the People's Republic of Massachusetts, the feudal lands and serfs of the Kennedys. The courts there are ,shall we say, politically oriented. Kerry's records will never be opened up before the election. Now if it were a Republican candidate, the records would be "outed" to the media before the first phone call from a reporter was finished.

The bigger question is why were the record sealed in the first place? Except for matters dealing with child custody, in most states divorce records are open to the public unless sealed by the court for compelling reasons.

CHASE ON FOR SEALED KERRY DIVORCE DOCUMENTS; PAPER FRENZY AFTER ILLINOIS SENATE RACE RELEASE

After last week's front page headlines over ugly unsealed divorce records in the Republican Illinois senate race, media outlets now face a dilemma: What to do about Democrat presidential hopeful John Kerry's sealed divorce records!

The race is on in political and media circles to gauge the import of Kerry's sealed July 25, 1988 divorce from his first wife, Julia Stimson Thorne.

Its about time.

I find it wrong to open sealed records, but if it was done to one candidate, than it must be done to another. Why is it of public concern for a congressional candidate, yet not for a presidental candidate?

It is stooping to the dims level, but sometimes you must.

Only Republican divorce cases or DWI cases may be opened to the media. It's like Teresa's tax return. Not to be made public.

I believe, should you check, parts, or all, of divorce records are public information.

At least those parts of a divorce that are litigated before a judge.

You may not wish to be aware of the information, as it may, or may not, relate to a candidate for public office, but I dare say there are others that do.

Divorce proceedings are public record. That's why permission from the judge is needed to have them sealed. Politics, hidden under the guise of the media's plea of "public has a right to know", stinks. But none on the RAT side squawked when it was happening to Jack Ryan.

Like the Office of Independent Council law, the RATS never squawked about it, until it was used against x42i.

IllinoisLeader.com plans to sue for Kerry divorce records

Posted on 06/25/2004 2:31:12 PM PDT by Mini-14

This afternoon, Leader Media President Dan Proft announced that IllinoisLeader.com plans to file suit to obtain Massachusetts' Senator John Kerry's, the presumptive Democrat nominee for President, sealed divorce records from his first marriage to Julia Thorne which was later annulled.

Dan Proft, President of Leader Media, and former advisor to former Senate Candidate Jack Ryan

The headline is false. It's isn't 'The Media' suing for opening Kerry's records, it's Jack Ryan's former advisor suing. So Ryan got caught with his pants down so he is going after someone else's divorce records. I seriously doubt that Kerry was taking his first wife to sex clubs and trying to get her to have sex in front of strangers.

This move is almost psychotic and makes Ryan and/or his advisor look like petty fools.

I agree Divorce proceedings are public records - it's done all the time with celebrities but I don't see any need to do this. What is it going to accomplish? The American people get turned off by this kind of stuff during an election year.

Theres no guarentee that they will even find anything of substance. I think there is more traction to be gained if the request is denied. If it is made public that Ryans files were opened and JF'nK's were denied, it will make people distrust the liberal judges/media even more - and hopefully add to the distain of Ketchup boy.

Once again I see the conservatives amongst us getting all noble and wishy-washy. This is NOT the way to go.

The Dems are waging an all-out war and we're gonna sit around and wallow in our nobility?

Or maybe the Repubs will get so fed up they'll start cursing in the senate and such?

The ONLY way to stop their dirty wars is to, as the poster says above, fight fire with fire. When they realize two can play their games, maybe everyone will back off.

I am a former Democrat and knew how to rig a voting machine when I was 8 years old. LEARN!

Unfortunately, his medical records, military records and Theresa's tax records are private and cannot be released without their consent, but the media should be asking for them.

This is a start, at any rate, but I hope they're not bad enough to force him off the ticket, just damage him, because W appears to be in trouble if there is a Dem. candidate with any charisma.

Aren't all sorts of records in civil litigation sealed from time to time?

Liability cases (product, medical, etc.) that settle after the trial has started but before they get to a jury often contain agreements that the parties will seal the terms and not discuss them further.
