I don't like the idea of splitting the nation up, but I'm interested in hearing what other freepers think of this.

These screwballs can talk all they want, but when they come around my nice home here in Aiken, they will find the Stars and Stripes flying proudly.

You're always welcome here....until you try and replace that flag.

It may surprise some to know that the movement is endorsed by Dr. James Kennedy and by Tim LaHaye of the Left Behind Series. The movement is in its infancy and could get much bigger; particularly if gay marriage becomes the law of the land.

I 've served this country in uniform for 32 years and I'm no traitor. Very few people love and honor America more than Southern evangelicals. No other section of the country is as well represented in the military or among Medal-of-Honor winners as the South. However, as Ronald Reagan said of the Democrat Party "they left me, not the other way around". I detest what America is becoming. I will seriously consider joining the exodus.

The US will start to break up in 25 to 50 years. I applaud these folks for getting an early start.

In my estimation the US will break up a hell of a lot sooner than 25 years. I'd say the process has already begun---and this is the most important point---ON BOTH SIDES (of the political spectrum).

When the FUNDAMENTAL moral basis of sides is so different the end is near.

To be honest I believe it may be the Left that gets the ball rolling. They are in every sense of the term 'religioys fanatics' and they WILL do what they have ALWAYS done thru history when their god-like sense of moral outrage kicks in: ATTACK SOCIETY.

When Christians try to isolate themselves in their own community, disobey Christ's commandment to 'Go and make disciples'. They demonstrate a disbelieve in God's ability to sustain them in their current positions and demonstrate their faith in their own power to effect change. I don't believe God gave us this country with it's constitution so that we could have heaven on earth. I believe He blessed us with it that we might carry His gospel to the whole world. Retreating into a Christian community is sinful and cowardly.

There are a lot of things I'm not happy with, but living in South Carolina isn't one of them. It's a great place, a generally conservative area, and with the exception of the silly Sunday selling laws, pretty much allows folks to be who they want to be.

Having said that, feel free to come here along with all the others who are fed up with the moral decline, and hopefully this "exodus" will help make SC an even more conservative state. The key word here is "state", not "nation".

Not sure how you and the others in this exodus would achieve your independence, but this time I suggest there would be a lot more internal resistance than last time.

I don't think there is any reason to post excerpts of articles like this. No doubt the organization would like the attention. Excerpts are for the LA Times and other media conglomorates.

I think patriotic Americans are pretty fed up having to smack down South Carolina every time they start talking about treason. What would this be, the third time?

The comment made by one Southerner in 1860 still applies: "South Carolina is too small to make a nation, and too large for an insane asylum."

South Carolina is already a Christian and conservative stste. They should move instead to Vermont; they might make a difference there. Vermont used to be Christian and conservative until secularized socialists from New York City flooded the state bringing with them the likes of Bernie Sanders.

Same with me here in Lexington, SC and my entire/large South Carolinian clan ... these people had better not believe for a second that they will come into the Great Palmetto State and lower our Stars and Bars.

However, I see a lot of my fellow conservatives in this thread from up north and out west lining up to chastise all South Carolinians for the actions of these other peoples (the 'haven't they tried this before' and the 'Old Hickory' references') ... be careful alienating the conservative citizens of one of the most important conservative states in the Union with negative and unecessary War of Northern Agression references. You want us to forget about it? Then you forget about it too. (BTW, Ole Hickory was a South Carolinian by birth.)

I secretly think it's just a periodic urban renewal scheme for Atlanta.

Hey hey hey hey hey hey. Whoa. Careful now. You do not want to group all South Carolinian's into this with your very poorly chosen words Hostile Territory.

Vermont is ripe for redemption, but I think our New England winters are a little too rough for some of our southern American cousins to endure.

You're right, I don't want to take the ribbing too far--certainly South Carolina didn't ask to be part of a proposal that includes some good bits and some bad bits, and I would never impugn the large contributions southerners make to our country's defense.

I just find that as a northerner and a resident of a state with possibly the worst Senate delegation of any east of the Rockies, I get a lot of ribbing on conservative sites. So I have to stand up for the right on those few times where our states are in the right. ;)

100% agree with above analysis except although the forces are in place to cause the breakup, it will still take about 25 years to actually happen.

The originators of secession from the Union were New England Yankees during the war of 1812. I believe the southwest corner of the US and New England will break off at the same time.

Would you consider Francis "SwampFox" Marion a treasonous man who needed to be smacked down also? South Carolinians are like Texans. They remember that the name of our country is the United STAES of America and remind the government of that everyonce in a while. Men of freedom know there is no good life to be found at the hand of tyrannous government.

South Carolina is a fine state with a tradition of honor and the gonads to back up their words with action. I'm sure there are plenty of South Carolinians today who would be more than obliging to let you try and 'smack them down' again.

They are just fed up citizens who are trying to get their country back.

ROFLMAO!! And they think South Carolinians are going to help them 'get their country back'? Good luck! ROFL!

South Carolinians are contrary. If outsiders are for something, my dear neighbors to the south are likely to be against it. It doesn't particularly matter what the issue is. They don't like people coming into their state and telling them what to do, and they especially won't take kindly to outsiders coming in and trying to highjack their state. They're just contrary for the sake of being contrary. Most southerners are like that; South Carolinians are just a little bit more so, because they have a history to live up to. You know, Ft. Sumter and all that.

Hostile Territory.>>>

Not as hostile as they found Sherman's command, however.

His intent was to make sure that "generations pass before our southern bretheren resort to arms against the Federal Government." It worked.

So far.
