Americans Sharpen Shooting Skills Friday, June 18, 2004 LOS ANGELES Shooting for sport is becoming more and more popular across the country. Along with Pilates and windsurfing, clay target shooting (search) and handgun target shooting (search) are some of America's fastest growing sports. Some 20 million Americans participate in recreational gun activities. Those who shoot clays call it "golf with guns." "It is being looked at more as a sport and recreation, it is not all about hunting," said Rick Matulich of the San Diego Shotgun Sports Association (search). Target shooting dates back to the 14th century, and it became an Olympic sport in 1896. And while some worry about recreational gun safety, the government says a person is more likely to get hurt riding a bike, playing basketball or swimming. "It is a great sport," said Bret Erickson (search), 2004 U.S. Olympic shotgun team member. "It is a sport for all ages; it is a sport for the whole family and it is a huge growing sport." Good .... we need to have a lot of good shots here ... it will make it easier to shoot terrorists, illegal aliens, and traitors.
More members for the Homeland Security force.
This is good news. I suggest that everyone learn to be effective with a gun. Our home was once invaded by an intruder. I shot the guy as soon as he made his way into the foyer. It didn't kill him, but it did stop him in his tracks. We later found out that he was armed. I cringe to think of what might have happened if I were unable to shoot my gun - or even worse, what would have happened if I didn't have a gun at all.
It' about time we received some decent press. The only thing the lefty's in the press rooms like to promote are the thugs with stolen guns.
..."Tiny" Tommie and "Botox" Nancy are Sooooo disappointed... :)
Hey, lets go Skeet-Surfin'!!
I can't tell you how glad I am to have my sport mentioned in the same sentance with pilates and windsurfing.
I give much of the credit to AOL.
They've been sending out those neat shiny targets to people for free.
I hope more outlets pick up on this story.
My dad remembers a time when most High Schools had Rifle Teams. Now we have a lot of colleges that don't even have them as a club sport.
I have to remember to aim slightly off so as not to have all the bullets go though the center hole.
"What's all this talk I hear about 'shooting sports'? Shouldn't people be able to have sports without someone else coming along and shooting them? Why, it's just like those people that were trying to get sax and violins off of TV ... what, are we going to start shooting musicians next? No. I say, let people have their sports, and not have to worry about someone shooting them."
"Nevermind ..."

In the 1960's, in order for a young person 12 to 18 years to receive a hunting license, the State of California required the youth to pass a National Rifle Association, "Hunter's Safety Course". Now, the State of CA considers the NRA to be its enemy.
The real enemy, of course was the National Assn. of Psychiatrists. They encouraged the Kennedy Administration at the federal level and the then Gov. "Pat" Brown" of California, to close the state mental hospitals because "new drugs" would enable the mentally ill to integrate into the community. They did all right. They shot at presidents and shot themselves up with drugs. That's when and why the drug problem began and the notable abuse of firearms.
The irony of the Kennedy shooting is that he got rid of the very mental hospitals that Oswald would have been in, instead of the Texas State Book Depository.
You have that problem too? I thought I was the only one.
;^)
But the targets do last longer if you do put them all through the center hole...
Bwhahahaahahah. The gun grabbers at AOL are actually good for something!
It sucks that you had to.
But it's good that you were able to.
How's This??
